Dennis Siver was hit with a stiff penalty for using a banned substance, as the Nevada Athletic Commission fined and suspended him on Thursday.
Siver tested positive for human chorionic gonadotropin before his UFC 168 fight with Manny Gamburyan. According to a report by The MMA Report, he was fined 30-percent of his fight purse ($19,800), suspended for nine months and had his win overturned to a no-contest.
Siver told the commission that he was given the drug by his trainer and did not know it was a banned substance. He also claimed to have only taken drops of the substance, but a Nevada doctor testified he believed Siver injected it.
Siver, 35 years old, is now 21-9 in his career with the one no-contest. He has not earned an official win since a 2012 victory over Nam Phan.
