Glover Teixeira had just three simple words when asked earlier this week on “UFC Tonight” if UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will regret taking a fight with him over a rematch vs. Alexander Gustafsson.
“Yes, he will,” Teixeira said.
The two lock horns this evening in Baltimore at UFC 172.
Jones could have pushed for a rematch with Gustafsson after the two went five rounds last year, but he decided to give the Brazilian a shot at the belt. After having the bout moved, it was finally locked in for this weekend.
Teixeira has won 20 straight and is a perfect 5-0 with the UFC. He defeated Ryan Bader and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson to secure his shot at the belt, and believes he has the right game plan to win the belt from Jones.
“I’ll keep it aggressive,” he said. “I’ll keep the pressure on. I’ve got good wrestling. I’m confident in my power. I know if I touch him a couple of times, he’s going to go down.”
Teixeira also feels that maybe others, including Jones, are looking past him. That would be a mistake, the fighter said.
“It’s part of the game. After my fight with Bader, there was talk about me and Jon fighting, and look at what happened to that fight,” he said. “That fight was really close to getting made. I feel really confident that I’m going to take the belt (from him).”
