Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans remains the only man to defeat Phil Davis.
Evans, though, believes he will have company after UFC 172 Saturday night. Davis takes on Anthony Johnson in the co-main event of the show from Baltimore.
“AJ is going to be too strong and he hits like hard, hard,” said Evans, during an interview with MMAMania.com. “I think he is going to knock Phil out.”
Evans earned a decision over Davis in 2012, but is currently sidelined after suffering a severe knee injury. He was forced to pull out of a planned fight with Daniel Cormier earlier this year, but was with Johnson during weigh-ins on Friday and will be in his corner for the fight.
“AJ is going to be tough,” he said. “AJ is going to be up there. I think AJ is going to be one of the best guys in the division.
“I think he is going to smash Phil Davis. I believe he is going to smash him.”
Johnson is making his return to the UFC after being cut following a loss to Vitor Belfort and a third failed weigh-in. He made 205 pounds on the nose for this fight.
