Glover Teixeira couldn’t find an answer for Jon Jones Saturday night at UFC 172, and left the Octagon battered and bruised.
Teixeira was dealt his first loss since joining the promotion, as “Bones” picked him apart. The Brazilian also cited an injured shoulder suffered early in the fight.
“We were dry and he surprised me with that,” Teixeira said. “I knew Jones was a tough fighter. He is different every time and a great champion.”
Teixeira was trying to land his heavy left hook, and admitted he did “three-or-four times,” but added that Jones just “came back stronger.”
“The guy is tough,” he said. “He take my best shots. I might have a broken rib (and the shoulder injury, possibly a dislocated right shoulder).”
Jones didn’t use his reach, instead, he fought Teixeira from in close. That came as a surprise to the veteran.
“I did my strategy, I tried to push him,” he said. “I hit him with my hooks. He beat me at my best.”
