UFC president Dana White got a good chuckle when asked about comments made by Vitor Belfort recently. The No. 1 contender to the middleweight title asked to be re-inserted into the fight with Chris Weidman, citing his passing of several tests to be clean of TRT.
The drug was banned by both the Nevada Athletic Commission and the UFC earlier this year, forcing the promotion to remove Belfort from the title fight with Weidman. Lyoto Machida was selected to replace him.
Belfort stated that he has done “all the tests” required of him to get his fight license in Nevada, but White isn’t buying it.
“He’s always fun. He’s hilarious,” said White, after UFC 172 this weekend. “He’s got a lot of work to do. He’s fooling himself if that’s what he really thinks.”
White added that Belfort will not be fighting this summer, and doesn’t have an exact date in mind for his return. He is expected to challenge for the middleweight title when he does get cleared and licensed to compete again.
