UFC Boss Doesn’t See Jones-Velasquez In The Near Future

Jon Jones

UFC president Dana White looks at the landscape of his promotion and sees potential for Jon Jones in the heavyweight division.

However, that’s still off in the future, according to the UFC boss.

Jones has an rematch with Alexander Gustafsson on the horizon, along with a potential showdown vs. Daniel Cormier or maybe even Dan Henderson after that. Plus, he’s still in his 20s, so there is time left.

“It’s not time for a Cain (Velasquez) vs. Jon super-fight,” said White, during a recent press conference (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for the quotes). “As (Jones) gets older, he will have a harder time making (light heavyweight), which would eventually force him up to heavyweight.”

White announced Velasquez vs. Fabricio Werdum recently for UFC 180 in November, as the two will compete as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America. That ties Velasquez up through 2014 with the fight, coaching and recovery from surgery.
