Miesha Tate feels the incoming strawweight division of female fighters will be a great addition to the UFC. Tate attended tryouts for The Ultimate Fighter 20 earlier this week in Las Vegas.
The season will begin later this year and feature UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and Gilbert Melendez as coaches. The winner of the tournament will become the first-ever strawweight champion in the promotion.
“I can’t wait for the season,” said Tate, during UFC Tonight on Wednesday. “I attended the tryouts and the talent pool is great.”
Tate added that Pettis and Melendez were strong choices for the coaching positions on the first all-female TUF season.
“I love Gilbert as a coach. His wife is a Muay Thai fighter who’s trying to transition into MMA at 115,” Tate said. “I know he’s very pro-women in MMA. I think Anthony makes an interesting coach.
“I think it’ll be different for the guys to coach so many girls in one setting.”
