Vinny Magalhaes was forced to postpone his debut fight with Titan FC earlier this year. Now, he’ll fight for the promotions light heavyweight title.
Last Friday night, Jason Brilz scored a decision victory over Raphael Davis in the main event of Titan FC 28. Following that fight, Magalhaes let it be known that he’ll meet Brilz next.
“Who’s fighting for the belt on his Titan FC debut?” Magalhaes posted. “This guy here. Vinny Magalhaes vs. Jason Brilz for the inaugural Titan FC Light Heavyweight Title. Date: TBD. Location TBD. Watch: CBS Sports Network.”
Magalhaes (10-7) is a former M-1 Global champion who defended the title once before signing back on with the UFC in 2012. He defeated Igor Pokrajac, but was topped by Phil Davis and Anthony Perosh and announced his retirement.
It was short lived, though, as the former Ultimate Fighter runner-up signed on with Titan FC earlier this year. He was expected to meet Brilz, but his injury forced the cancellation of the fight for the time being.
Brilz (22-5-1) has won four straight since his release from the UFC in 2011 following a third consecutive loss. He went 3-4 inside the Octagon, including wins over Tm Boetsch and Eric Schafer, along with a split decision loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
Titan FC CEO Jeff Aronson confirmed with FightLine that the bout was accepted by Brilz and that the fighter wants to compete in late August. Brilz balancing his MMA career with that of a firefighter in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska.
