Former UFC lightweight contender Gray Maynard will return to the Octagon this August, taking on Fabricio Camoes at UFC 176.
The bout, first reported by the Los Angeles Daily News, was confirmed by UFC officials. It joins the August 2 card from Los Angeles and the Staples Center.
In the planned main event, Jose Aldo defends his featherweight title against Chad Mendes. The main card airs on pay-per-view, with prelims expected on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Maynard (11-3-1) has posted just a 1-3-1 record since winning his first 10 fights. That includes a loss to Frankie Edgar for the UFC lightweight title, a draw vs. Edgar and a knockout defeat at the hands of Nate Diaz.
The 35-year-old former Michigan State University standout, last won in 2012 when he earned a split decision over Clay Guida. Along with the TKO loss to Diaz last November, he also was stopped by TJ Grant in May.
Maynard and Edgar fought for the UFC 155-pound title twice in 2011.
Camoes (14-8-1) is 1-3-1 overall in his UFC career, including a recent submission loss to Jim Miller. The 35-year-old also lost to Melvin Guillard in 2012 after returning to the UFC following wins for Tachi Palace Fights in 2011
Back in 2010, he lost to Kurt Pellegrino via submission and fought Caol Uno to a majority draw in his Octagon debut. In his second career fight, Camoes lost via TKO to Anderson Silva after 25 minutes of action.
