On “UFC Tonight” Wednesday, it was reported that Dong Hyun Kim – and not Matt Brown – would be the next opponent for Hector Lombard.
While nothing official has come from the UFC offices, Lombard is making it seem like the bout is signed, sealed and delivered for UFC Fight Night in Macau, China later this year.
“You got lucky Matt Brown,” posted Lombard on Instagram, along with a picture of himself and Kim. “To all my Aussie fans let’s go to Macao and get this win love you all!!!”
The card takes place August 23 from the Cotai Arena in China. So far, no fights have been reported for the event.
Lombard (34-4-1) is a former Bellator champion who scored a decision victory over Jake Shields in March. Prior to that, he finished Nate Marquardt via knockout in less than two minutes.
With wins over former Strikeforce champions in Shields and Marquardt, Lombard has positioned himself highly in the UFC welterweight rankings. His lone losses inside the Octagon have come via split decision to Yushin Okami and Tim Boetsch.
Lombard had been making a push to face Brown, who has won seven straight, in his next fight. It remains unknown what the plans are for “The Immortal” in regards to his next fight.
Kim (19-2-1) is on a four-fight win streak that includes a spinning back elbow knockout of John Hathaway during their main event fight in Macau this past March. He also finished Erick Silva last October and earned decisions over Siyar Bahadurzada and Paulo Thiago after a 2012 loss to Demian Maia.
