UFC president Dana White just continues to preach his thoughts on UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao, who defends his title tonight against T.J. Dillashaw.
Earlier this week during a media scrum, White once again went to bat for the Brazilian, who he has referred to as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
“I love watching Renan Barao fight,” White said. “I’m a big Renan Barao fan. What don’t you love about Renan Barao? He goes out and he finishes and wrecks people.
“If you tell me, ‘I don’t like watching 145 pounders, I’m not into it,’ you’re not a fight fan.”
Barao (32-1) hasn’t lost in his last 33 pro bouts, including wins over Urijah Faber, Eddie Wineland and Michael McDonald. In Dillashaw (9-2), he’ll be meeting his second straight Team Alpha Male fighter.
Since joining the UFC in 2011, Barao has earned four finishes in seven fights. For his career, he has 14 submission wins and eight more via knockout.
“When you look at Renan Barao’s fights, he’s all there,” White said. “He’s the kind of guy that I like to watch. He’s a killer. He comes in and he tries to finish.”
White attacked those that say they aren’t interested in seeing Barao inside the Octagon, commenting, “I hear he’s not handsome enough. I hear he doesn’t speak English. Listen, if you’re showing up to see handsome guys speak, you’re coming to the wrong (expletive) show.”
