Dana White didn’t go lightly on Jake Ellenberger after UFC 173 this past weekend.
Following a second consecutive loss, the UFC president let his words fly in regards to Ellenberger. The 29-year-old was finished by Robbie Lawler.
After winning fights against Jake Shields and Diego Sanchez, Ellenberger (29-8) appeared set for a potential title run. However, he was finished by Martin Kampmann in 2012, snapping his six-fight win streak at the time.
While he rebounded with wins over Jay Hieron and Nate Marquardt, Ellenberger has now dropped two in a row. Rory MacDonald claimed a decision over him last July.
“This is two times where he was in the spotlight and he didn’t pull the trigger,” said White, during his media scrum. “When you’re in a big fight like that and you’re down, you come out in the third and try to win. He didn’t do that. He didn’t do that in the MacDonald fight either.
“He’s got a lot of work to do.”
Ellenberger signed a new eight-fight extension earlier this year after having a pair of planned fights with former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine cancelled.
