The World Series of Fighting will be on network television this year, as the promotion announced plans to air a July card on NBC.
Previously, WSOF events were broadcast on NBC Sports Network. The July 5 WSOF 5 card, which features a main event between lightweight champion Justin Gaethje and Nick Newell, will air on network television as part of the new agreement announced in a press release.
“We are excited to extend and broaden our partnership to continue to bring World Series of Fighting’s unique brand of elite mixed martial arts to our viewers,” said Jon Miller, President of Programming for NBC and NBCSN.
As part of the new deal, the July 5 card will air from 4 p.m. ET-6 p.m. ET, while a second card in December will also be broadcast on NBC in the afternoon. That one is set for December 27.
Ray Sefo, president of the WSOF, stated “We have enjoyed tremendous success as a young company with the great people at NBCSG, and we are thrilled to be continuing on this journey with them for years to come.”
Other bouts planned for the July card include Jon Fitch vs. Josh Burkman and Melvin Guillard vs. Gesias Cavalcante. UFC 175 will air that evening on pay-per-view, along with prelims on UFC Fight Pass and FOX Sports 1.
UFC cards air on FOX, while the now-defunct promotion, Strikeforce, previously aired cards on CBS.
