Ryan Couture, the son of former UFC champion Randy Couture, will return to action at BattleGrounds MMA: O.N.E. next month in a lightweight fight against Jonny Carson.
Couture, who competed for the UFC before being released, is 8-3 in his career. The 31-year-old has won two fights for BattleGrounds MMA already this year.
After a decision loss to Al Iaquinta dropped Couture to 0-2 with the UFC, he was released. He has since scored submission wins over Kyle Sjafiroeddin and Shakir McKillip.
Carson is 11-6 in his career and coming off a victory over Marcio Navarro. He trains with Gilbert Melendez and is part of the “Skrap Pack” in California.
Another bout was added to the June 27 card from Tulsa, as Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc takes on Jen Aniano. A one-night, eight-man tournament will be featured, with Dennis Hallman, Cody McKenzie, Chris Honeycutt and Brock Larson among those entered.
“We are excited to showcase such high-caliber talent on what is, without a doubt, our most superb fight card to date,” said BattleGrounds MMA president and Olympic wrestling gold medalist Kenny Monday. “Fans are going to see a mix of fast-paced, high-pressure tournament fights as well as several nationally recognized and local, emerging stars facing off in single, super-fights with potential tournament opportunities at stake in each bout.”
