The World Series of Fighting debuted on NBC Saturday with WSOF 11: Gaethje vs. Newell.

In the main event, Justin Gaethje successfully defended his lightweight title against Nick Newell in a battle of unbeaten fighters. Gaethje dominated from the start, opening a huge cut over the left eye of Newell in the first round.

Newell, born without the lower portion of his left arm, continued to fight, but Gaethje eventually stopped him for good in the second with a body-right hook combination that floored Newell.

“Every time I talked about this fight, (I talked about) the heart (of Newell), and that he has more confidence than anybody I have fought,” Gaethje said. “I knew it would be a task (to get the win). It was a war.”

Former UFC title contender Jon Fitch didn’t give Dennis Hallman much of a chance, dominating the better part of 15 minutes to score the unanimous decision victory. Fitch was originally set to meet WSOF welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares on the card, but Palhares bailed after his mother became ill.

In earlier action, Cody Bollinger and Melvin Guillard both scored finishes. Bollinger, an alum of The Ultimate Fighter, choked out Pablo Alfonso in the first round, while Guillard, an ex-UFC competitor, earned a TKO victory in the second over Gesias Cavalcante.
