Dominick Cruz Has His Return Date In Sight

Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has a date set for his return.

But he’s keeping quiet.

Cruz, who hasn’t fought since 2011, posted on Twitter that he has been cleared to return. Following two knee surgeries, “The Dominator” suffered a groin strain earlier this year, canceling his planned unification match with Renan Barao.

“NOTHING has made me more excited in a long time than hearing a fight date from Sean Shelby,” Cruz posted. “Ask him tho-cuz I can’t release it.”

UFC officials stripped him of his title when the latest injury happened. Cruz (19-1) hasn’t lost since a 2007 submission defeat at the hands of Urijah Faber.

UPDATE: Shortly after Cruz posted the message, it was confirmed by ESPN that he will be facing Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 178 on September 27 from Las Vegas.

“I’m excited to finally be back,” Cruz said. “It’s been a long time coming, but I feel great and I’m already training hard.”

3 yrs out, at least 3 injuries, two of which were sustained due to training to early..the cards don’t look good for him coming back and being like he use to

As one who used to ALWAYS root against Cruz, I’m actually hoping he takes this one just because I can’t help but feel bad for the guy.

That said even if he does come back in good form and gets the win, he will get the Faber rubber match next and lose ;)
