Conor McGregor’s hype-train didn’t get derailed this weekend in Ireland. In fact, it likely only picked up more speed after “Notorious” downed Diego Brandao.
Now, McGregor wants a shot at a Top-10 ranked featherweight – and he has Cole Miller’s teammates in his sights.
McGregor and Miller were expected to be the main event of UFC Fight Night 46, but Miller suffered an injury and was forced out. McGregor made a reference to neither Poirier or Lentz stepping in to face him when the injury happened during the post-fight press conference.
“You’re trying to tell me that Dustin Poirier, Nik Lentz – both Top-10 guys, no fights scheduled – didn’t know about Cole’s injury,” McGregor questioned. “Yet, nothing. They didn’t campaign for this main event slot. There wasn’t a peep out of both of them.”
McGregor earned his third UFC victory, returning from a knee injury suffered last year. He has now stopped Marcus Brimage and Brandao, while holding a decision win over Max Holloway.
Poirier went ahead and accepted the challenge on Twitter, posting, “I’m ready when you are,” and “UFC 178 sounds good to me.”
