The Return Of Joe Riggs To The Octagon

Joe Riggs, the recent – and only to date – winner of the Bellator and Spike TV reality series “Fight Master,” wil return to the UFC later this year.

According to a report by Combate, Riggs will replace Mike Rhodes and face Paulo Thiago at UFC Fight Night 51 in Brazil. The event is set for September 13 with a main event between Antonio Silva and Andrei Arlovski.

Riggs (40-14) went 4-4 during a previous run with the UFC that ended in 2006 when he lost via first round knockout to Diego Sanchez. He owns Octagon wins over Nick Diaz and Chris Lytle, while falling via submission to Matt Hughes. He has won six straight and eight of his last 10 overall.

Thiago (15-7) survived a four-fight losing skid to sign a new deal recently with the UFC. He is 5-7 in 12 all-time Octagon appearances.

Below is the current lineup:

Heavyweight: Antonio Silva vs. Andrei Arlovski

Lightweight: Leonardo Santos vs. Lukas Sajweski

Welterweight: Sergio Moraes vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio

Welterweight: Paulo Thiago vs. Joe Riggs

Welterweight: George Sullivan vs. Igor Araujo

Female Bantamweight: Jessica Andrade vs. Valerie Letourneau

Honestly, the only reason I see them bringing Riggs in is to try and discredit Fight Master. I could be completely wrong, Riggs has some skills and Paulo Thiago has had some rough spots lately, so it is a winnable fight for Riggs. I’m wondering if this is a pink slip fight.

Nah They don’t need to discredit fight master… The show no longer exist. An overload of events allows them to sign some guys that they can kind of use at their disposal… Riggs has some name recognition but it’s no big deal if he loses & they cut him or give him one more shot on a free prelim, it’s a warm body with name that rings a bell with some fans.
