Robbie Lawler Lands Endorsement Deal With Adidas

UFC welterweight No. 1 contender Robbie Lawler has signed an endorsement deal with Adidas in a story first reported by Forbes.

Lawler, coming off a decision win over Matt Brown, is likely to face UFC champion Johny Hendricks in early 2015 for the belt. The two met earlier this year, with Hendricks scoring a decision victory at the time.

According to the report, Lawler will be provided all necessary training equipment from Adidas, along with future promoting following his win. The story also states that the UFC did not allow Lawler to wear any Adidas gear to the Octagon for his recent win, or have the logo on his fight-night banner.

On a side note, Hendricks is sponsored by Reebok, which is owned by the holding company, Adidas AG.

“We are honored to announce the signing of Robbie Lawler to our global combat sports team, and to have the opportunity to work with him,” said Scott Viscomi, managing director of Adidas Combat Sports USA. “Robbie is an outstanding athlete and individual who we have the utmost respect for. He is one of the most exciting athletes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and his fights never fail to excite the crowd.

“We look forward to working closely with Robbie to cement our commitment in contributing to the growth of the global MMA market.”
