Former UFC Champion To Compete At ADCC

Matt Hughes and Renzo Gracie will square off – four years after meeting inside the Octagon.

Gracie confirmed with MMAFighting.com that he will meet Hughes in a super-fight at the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship next year in September.

“It’s a done deal,” Gracie said. “Matt asked to compete again at the ADCC and they offered me this wonderful fight. I wasn’t expecting for this, but I immediately accepted it.”

Gracie won the 1998 and 2000 ADCC gold medals, while Hughes competed in the tournament before. Hughes won the MMA fight in Abu Dhabi in 2010, scoring a third round TKO victory.

“Every time I have a chance to compete, I’m in,” Gracie remarked. “I can’t say no. He fought there before, he’s really tough. It’s going to be a great fight.”

Hughes’ ADCC experience includes wins over Ricardo Almeida and Jeremy Horn, while he lost to Jeff Monson and Tito Ortiz.

This should be a pretty good match, as obviously Renzo is a master at Jiu Jitsu, but Hughes is very good as well plus he is quite a bit stronger, i would love to see this match up. my guess right now though is a draw.
