Raphael Assuncao Wants His UFC Title Shot

ufc fight night 54

Raphael Assuncao has the third-longest win streak among active UFC fighters. And if he has anything to say about his next bout, it’ll be for the UFC bantamweight title.

Assuncao picked Bryan Caraway apart Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 54, earning win No. 7 in a row. He is tied with two other fighters, and sits only behind champions Jon Jones and Chris Weidman for the best streak in the promotion.

“One, two, three, four, five, six, seven,” Assuncao said before pointing to his waist and motioning a world title. “No. 8 will be my dream right here.”

While many have pegged Assuncao (23-4) as the top contender, he sits behind Dominick Cruz. The former champion recently returned and was deemed the next contender to T.J. Dillashaw’s title. Assuncao was actually expected to face then-champion Renan Barao before an injury opened the door for Dillashaw.

Assuncao was the last man to defeat Dillashaw, claiming a split decision in Brazil.

Caraway, an alum of The Ultimate Fighter, fell to 19-7 in his career.

“Bryan’s a game opponent,” Assuncao said. “He kept coming forward. Much respect to Bryan.”
