Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal paid respects to those closest to him after taking care of Joe Vedepo Saturday night at Bellator 131.
Lawal, a former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, earned his 14th career win by scoring a third-round TKO finish vs. Vedepo. Vedepo stepped in on short notice as a replacement for Tom DeBlass.
“He’s tough as hell,” Lawal said. “He came in, took a beating and kept trying to right.”
Earlier this year, Lawal (14-4) suffered a decision loss to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the finals of the Season 10 tournament. Since, he’s finished both Vedepo and Dustin Jacoby.
Overall since joining the promotion, Lawal is 6-3, including a pair of losses to current division champion Emanuel Newton.
