Urijah Faber Knows Where To Get The Most Bang For His Buck

Urijah Faber

Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz have one of the longest rivalries in MMA history, dating back their first meeting in 2007.

Seven years later, the two bantamweights remain embroiled in constant verbal tirades – even as Cruz continues to work his way back from an injury.

Faber (31-7) is currently set to meet Francisco Rivera next month at UFC 181, but he discussed “The Dominator” during a recent interview with Submission Radio.

“That guy is childish man. I don’t really care about what he says and what he thinks,” Faber said. “I’m not trying to get into a battle of wits with an unarmed man. I’m just focusing on my stuff. I’ve got a lot of things going on in my life, especially this fight coming up, and Domonick Cruz is just a peon in my book. No matter how good of a fight you put on, the guy’s still a dope.”

As a former WEC champion and multi-time UFC title contender, many were surprised to see “The California Kid” grace the FOX Sports 1 prelims earlier this year. He’s back in that same role for his upcoming fight with Rivera, and Faber explained the reason behind the decision.

“I actually requested, both last time and this time to be in this position. It’s the main event on the free card, the FOX Sports 1 card, which I think the last fight got three times the viewership that the pay-per-view got,” he said. “So aside from being kind of the focus on the main card, you’re in front of a lot more people and for me it doesn’t change my pay whether I’m on a pay-per-view or not. I can also help the pay-per-view buys by having an exciting fight and drawing people to get pitched on buying the pay-per-view, but the cheap guy that’s at home watching, the guy that’s in a bar and just happens to look up, the guy that doesn’t have the cash to make it happen will all be able to catch my fight.
