Renan Barao returned to the win column on Saturday night by submitting Mitch Gagnon at UFC FN 58, but not everyone seemed to be overly impressed with his performance. While some have argued that Gagnon is no joke, and that Barao did pretty well, all things considered, others seem to think the former champ’s win was underwhelming.
So what did the renowned bantamweight think of his performance? Here is some of what Barao told the media afterwards (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“I scored a knockdown in the first round; in the second round, I froze a little bit,” Barao said. “In the third round, I was able to submit him. I thought the fight flowed, and that was that.
“He’s a very tough guy. He’s not a very well-known guy, but he’s got great submissions. He’s a tough guy. I knew it was going to be a great fight, and that’s what it was.”
Regardless of what one thinks about the win, you can bet the former champ will be booked to face a top ranked 135’er next.
UFC FN 58 went down in Barueri, Brazil.
