UFC 187: Khabib Nurmagomedov Says he Isn’t Trash Talking, He’s Speaking “The Truth”

Donald Cerrone has admitted that Khabib Nurmagomedov’s doing a good job of “talking s–t”, and that’s its getting under his “skin”, but the lightweight contender insists all he’s doing is telling the truth…

The two are set to fight on May 23rd, in a bout which will determine who will face Rafael dos Anjos next, since the latter ended the reign of Anthony Pettis at UFC 185. For a while, Nurmagomedov was taking most of his verbal shots at Pettis, but now that he’s booked to fight “Cowboy” at UFC 187, he’s been firing away at Cerrone.

Case in point, here is some of what Nurmagomedov had to say about Cerrone on the latest edition of “The MMA Hour” (quotes via MMA Fighting.com):

“It’s just funny,” Nurmagomedov said. “Cowboy is fake. I don’t think so he’s really cowboy, I think he’s fake. He all the time drink, drunk. I don’t think so he’s really cowboy. I’m really cowboy. I’m mountain guy…I am Dagestan cowboy, 100-percent.

“You know why he’s a little bit nervous?” Nurmagomedov added. “Because I say truth. I say truth. I no say trash talk, I say truth, and he’s a little bit nervous. He needs wrestling, he needs wrestling partners. But it’s okay. After two months we have fight, we have crazy fight, and when cage close, he understand, ‘Wow, this guy’s crazy. Why I take this fight? Why I take this fight?’ Because I want to smash this guy…”

So, its really starting to look like we could get quite the rivalry going here huh? Now, all the talking aside, the real question is whether Cerrone will be able to do what no one else has, and that’s shut down Nurmagomedov’s grappling game. Even the newly crowned champ dos Anjos couldn’t, as he fell to “The Eagle” by unanimous decision last April.

UFC 187 will go down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the main event, light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones will take on Anthony Johnson, and in the co-headliner, middleweight champ Chris Weidman will face Vitor Belfort.

The main card will be available via pay-per-view.
