Louis Smolka improved to 9-1 Saturday night at UFC 189 with a decision victory over Neil Seery.
On a weekend where Hawaiian legend BJ Penn was honored as a member of the UFC Hall of Fame, Smolka did his countrymen proud.
The 23-year-old earned his second straight win after scoring a November third round knockout over Richie Vaculik. Smolka (9-1) tried his hardest to finish this fight, but Seery withstood several submission attempts.
“I am super happy,” he said, thanking Joe Rogan for the interview. “It was exactly as we game planned. We wanted to take him to the ground. It all happened perfectly.”
Smolka joined the UFC in 2014 and earned a decision over Alptekin Ozkilic. He suffered his first pro loss when Chris Cariaso claimed a split decision over him.
