UFC 192: Prelims Play-By-Play And Results

Okay, UFC 192 is underway in Houston, Texas, and it’s a pretty stacked card, even if Tyron Woodley and Johny Hendricks are no longer scrapping

Let’s move to the preliminary bouts.

Fight Pass Results

Sage Northcutt def. Francisco Trevino via TKO (strikes) R1, 0:57

Sergio Pettis def. Chris Cariaso via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-28)

Derrick Lewis def. Viktor Pesta via TKO (punches) R3, 1:15

Angela Hill vs. Rose Namajunas

Round 1: Namajunas charges out. Both women have landed some shots. Namajunas clinches up but Hill works her way out. Namajunas scores a nice trip and takes Hill down. Hill gives up her back and Namajunas is hunting for a choke. This could be it. Wow. Hill tries to tap as she’s going out. Fight’s over. Impressive win for Namajunas.

Rose Namajunas def. Angela Hill via submission (rear-naked-choke) R1, 2:47

Islam Makhachev vs. Adriano Martins

Round 1: Both men come out in southpaw stance. Makhachev with a big overhand left. Martins flurries in. Wow. Makhachev comes in and gets absolutely crushed with a right hook. Martins follows up but ref jumps in to save Makhachev from any more punishment. Ridiculous hook. Big win for Martins.

Adriano Martins def. Islam Makhachev via KO (punch) R1, 1:46

Alan Jouban vs. Albert Tumenov

Round 1: Wow. Jouban charges in but gets swept aside. Both guys wing hard punches. Tumenov comes in with a hard one, two. Jouban already has some redness around his right eye. Jouban eats another shot. Latter comes with a headkick that’s blocked. Tumenov takes a kick low and fight is momentarily stopped. Action resumes. Wow. Tumenov fires a head kick that Jouban tries to block but it wobbles him. Tumenov cracks him with several more punches and that’s a wrap. Jouban protests stoppage but his legs still aren’t fully under him. Nice win for Tumenov.

Albert Tumenov def. Alan Jouban via TKO (strikes) R1, 2:55

Daniel Hooker vs. Yair Rodriguez

Round 1: Both men come out cautiously. Some feints from both featherweights. Hooker slips to the mat and gets right back up. Rodriguez with a spinning kick that’s blocked. Another spinning kick from Rodriguez that misses. Hard body kick from Rodriguez and Hooker storms in, pushes him to the cage. Nice sweep from Rodriguez and he’s on top. Hooker scrambles out and is back to his feet. Nicely done. Rodriguez tries another throw but can’t get it. They break. Rodriguez with a rolling kick attempt and the round ends.

Round 2: Hooker falls to the mat but gets right back up during an exchange. Hooker clinches up. Rodriguez dives to his back and is looking for a leg. Action is back standing. Both men fire kicks. Wow. Some more, frantic exchanges. Rodriguez with some more acrobatic techniques, but nothing is really landing. Round ends. Hooker is likely behind on the scorecards.

Round 3: Rodriguez takes a low blow. Action is momentarily halted. Hooker clinches up but Rodriguez rolls and is looking for a leg. Hooker defends but takes some elbows to the head. Hooker is cut. Hooker is still on top and is landing some shots from above. Wow. Rodriguez starts returning fire from his back. Some boo birds start up. Ref stands them up and is having doctor take a look at Hooker’s cut. Fight resumes. Hooker comes in with a knee that misses. Rodriguez rolls again. Final horn goes.

Yair Rodriguez def. Daniel Hooker via unanimous decision  (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Joe Rogan points out in post-fight interview that it looks like Rodriguez may have a broken foot. Ouch. Rodriguez says it happened in the first round.
