Holly Holm’s Coach Says New Champ “Held Back a Bit” in Previous Bouts

Holly Holm

Remember when the UFC announced that Holly Holm would fight Ronda Rousey next? How surprised many of us were? Since Holm hadn’t exactly blown away her UFC competition? Well, it sounds like that may have been part of the master plan….

Yes, Holm dropped thousands of jaws throughout the world last weekend by going out and stopping Rousey. Everyone knew that Holm was a very talented striker, but not many people saw her taking out out Rousey so decisively.

Well, recently her striking coach Mike Winkeljohn spoke with Yahoo Sports in Australia, and the trainer relayed this.

“Footwork is always the key for Holly Holm in her fights and Holly has held back a bit in the past and that was all part of the plan,” Winkeljohn said.

“We knew we would fight Ronda one day and Holly showed why she is now the best in the world.”

How about that? Now if you recall, Holm made her way to the UFC last year with a ton of hype. Not only because of her boxing resume, but because of several, highlight reel stoppage wins she scored in MMA.

But, against Raquel Pennington, Holm emerged with a split decision win. Again Marion Reneau she earned the UD win. So, was Holm taking her foot off the gas in those fights? Only “The Preacher’s Daughter” really knows.
