Jose Aldo Argues The “Only Difference” About Conor McGregor is That “I’m Beating up an Irishman”

Jose Aldo

When you consider Jose Aldo is set to face one of the biggest names in combat sports, one would think the UFC champ might be a wee bit fazed, but it certainly doesn’t seem like it was UFC 194 nears.

Yes, on December 12th, Aldo will throw down with Conor McGregor. Not only has the latter repeatedly insulted Aldo since he arrived in the UFC, but as the bout nears, McGregor has actually become the betting odds favorite. It’s expected to be one of the biggest fights in UFC history.

Well, despite all the trashtalk, the heated faceoffs, and the intense spotlight, Aldo insists this is just another fight. In a recent media call to promote UFC 194, here is some of what the featherweight champ had to say about facing McGregor (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“Another win. No reason to be different,” Aldo said. “That’s what I fight for. It doesn’t matter how it goes. I have to go there, win, and remain champion. The only difference is that I always fought against Americans, and now I’m beating up an Irishman.

“He’s working for me, bringing me money, so why am I going to be angry at him?” Aldo added. “I love all this. He has done good things for the division. If we had another one like him, it would be great.”

McGregor may be the king when it comes to verbal warfare, but Mr. Aldo maybe the master of shrugging things off. Now is Aldo really this calm and collected about facing the brash fighter? Probably not, but when you consider what the Brazilian has accomplished during his career, it’s hard to imagine him being intimidated by anyone. Aldo hasn’t been defeated since 2005…

UFC 194 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
