He’s Back! Cruz Wins Back UFC Gold

ufc fight night 81

Injuries have kept us from seeing Dominick Cruz for the better part of the last three-plus years.

Sunday night, Cruz took his place back on top of the bantamweight world, earning a split decision over T.J. Dillashaw at UFC Fight Night 81.

Several knee injuries kept “The Dominator” on the sidelines, and he even admitted after the win that he suffered a foot injury in training, but there was nothing that could wipe the shine off his face.

“Nobody’s retiring me except me,” he said. “I’ve been through too much. The only thing surprising (from Dillashaw) was that I had to show something in myself.

“It wasn’t what he had for me. I’ve seen different guys move like him. T.J. just added to that and now I’m on another level.”

The lone defeat Cruz has ever suffered came to Urijah Faber at 145 pounds, and he is still unbeaten at 135. That includes wins over Faber, Joseph Benavidez and even UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.

Fighting for the first time since 2014, Cruz again reiterated that “Octagon-rust” does not exist “unless you don’t train hard enough.”

In regards to the injury, Cruz said his foot was “tore in half” but that it didn’t bother him until the fifth round.
