Breaking: New Main Event Set For UFC 196

Stipe Miocic will fight Fabricio Werdum on less than two weeks notice, stepping in for Cain Velasquez to compete for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 196.

Werdumn vs Miocic will highlight the February 6, the event coincides with Super Bowl weekend from Las Vegas. The main card airs live on pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Velasquez (13-2) suffered a back injury that will sideline him indefinitely. The former UFC heavyweight champion was looking to regain the title he lost to Werdum last year.

Miocic (14-2) competed earlier this month, earning his eighth Octagon victory with a 54-second finish vs. former champion Andrei Arlovski. Werdum (20-5-1) has a matching 8-2 UFC record.
