Since Cain Velasquez has spent way too much time with physicians in recent years, you may have thought he’d be sidelined again for months, but Dana White is reporting that won’t be the case.
Recently the MMA world was sent another jolt, when it was announced that Velasquez was withdrawing from UFC 196, due to a back injury. Velasquez was scheduled to rematch the heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum at the event.
White appeared on the Opie & Jim Norton show this week, and the UFC boss man reported that Velasquez will only be sidelined for about four weeks. White also stated (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“He’s got problems with a disc in his back,” White said. “He’s actually gonna have surgery. The good part is it’s not gonna be long.”
That’s good news. Now it remains to be seen if the UFC still proceeds with Werdum – Velasquez II.
