Thiago Alves Targets August, Lightweight Division Next

Thiago Alves

Thiago Alves challenged Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight title in the co-main event of UFC 100 seven years ago.

Now, the 21-fight veteran will move to lightweight upon making his next appearance inside the Octagon.

Alves (21-10) confirmed the weight change on social media recently, adding that he should be fighting again this August.

The 32-year-old Alves lost to Carlos Condit last May, snapping his two-fight win streak. He has gone 14-6 overall with the UFC, including wins over former champion Matt Hughes via TKO, John Howard, Josh Koscheck and Chris Lytle.
