California-native Sean Strickland continued his climb up the ladder, scoring a victory over Tom Breese in the UFC 199 prelim Fight Pass main event Saturday night.
Strickland (18-1) picked up his third straight win and improved to 5-1 since signing with the UFC back in 2014.
“Sorry guys,” Strickland apologized to the crowd. “I wanted to control the middle and stand and bang it out. Sorry, he kept backing up.
“I didn’t think he was going to back up so much.”
Prior to scoring the win over Breese, the 25-year-old Strickland finished Alex Garcia and bested Igor Araujo, Luke Barnatt and Bubba McDaniel. His lone loss came in 2015 to Santiago Ponzinibbio via decision.
“I feel great,” he said. “I know I have holes in my game, but I just want to take it one fight at a time.”
Breese (10-1) lost for the first time in his career.
