When Alistair Overeem makes that walk next month at UFC 203, he knows the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland will be against him.
And Overeem is quite content with that.
Overeem will challenge Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight belt in his home state on September 10. The former Strikeforce champion appeared on a recent edition of “The MMA Hour” to discuss how he feels things will go in Cleveland.
“I’m actually very excited about (fighting in Cleveland),” Overeem said (thanks to MMA Fighting for transcribing). “Obviously 99-percent of the arena will be rooting for Stipe. But, you know what, it is what it is. And when I get my hand raised, I have my fans all over the world, but at that moment the crowd will be a little bit quiet. I look forward to that moment.”
Overeem has picked up four consecutive wins and is 5-1 over his last six. That includes wins over former champions Junior dos Santos and Andrei Arlovski.
