The biggest rematch of the year hit the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Saturday night, as UFC 202 went down.
Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz can now talk about a trilogy fight, as “Notorious” earned his revenge with a majority decision win over Diaz in the main event from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
In the early going, the fight followed the same pattern as the first. McGregor controlled the opening round, even dropping Diaz several times. However, the reigning UFC featherweight champion hit a wall and struggled through the third.
McGregor, though, rallied this time, finding a second – and maybe even a third – wind. After the fight, McGregor stated that he suffered a broken foot, as his face turned pitch white as he left the Octagon.
Anthony Johnson took advantage of the spotlight in the co-main event, knocking out Glover Teixeira in 13 seconds with UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier Octagon-side. “Rumble,” who lost to Cormier last year, made his case for being the next challenger with one punch on Teixeira.
Despite being 3-0 at welterweight after scoring a knockout of Rick Story, Donald Cerrone wants another crack at the lightweight title. Following his win vs. Story, “Cowboy” again called out Eddie Alvarez for November and Madison Square Garden. Cerrone earned a win over the current champion in the UFC debut of Alvarez.
It didn’t matter that it was Mike Perry’s debut, as the welterweight scored another first round finish. Perry improved to 8-0 by dropping Hyun Gyu Lim several times, finishing him with his last flurry and attack.
To begin the pay-per-view main card, Tim Means destroyed Sabah Homasi, stopping him in the second round with an offensive attack. Means left the debuting Homasi a bloody mess thanks to his effective striking.
Bantamweight Cody Garbrandt made a statement with champion Dominick Cruz watching, finishing Takeya Mizugaki inside of 50 seconds. “No Love” improved to 10-0 in his career by flooring the veteran and swarming before telling Cruz “I knocked him out faster than you did.”
Cortney Casey began the FOX Sports 1 prelims by submitting Top-15 female strawweight Randa Markos in the opening round via armbar. Artem Lobov downed Chris Avila in a meeting of teammates of McGregor and Diaz, while Raquel Pennington claimed her third straight win in the UFC with a decision over Elizabeth Phillips.
In the UFC Fight Pass prelim feature, Lorenz Larkin dominated Neil Magny, battering and bruising him in a welterweight battle. Larkin scored the first round finish after rendering Magny into a one-legged fighter.
For the fifth time in six Octagon fights, Colby Covington scored a win, finishing Max Griffin. He also earned his fourth UFC stoppage win after forcing the referee to step in in the third round.
UFC newcomer Marvin Vettori kicked off the event with a first round submission victory over Alberto Uda. The 22-year-old Italian locked in a guillotine choke with just 30 seconds left in the opening round, earning his sixth consecutive win.
The live gate was announced at $7,692,010, which is the fifth-largest in UFC history. The attendance was 15,539 with McGregor and Diaz earning “Fight of the Night” and Johnson and Cerrone scoring “Performance of the Night” bonuses.
