Valentina Shevchenko submitted Julianna Pena and likely secured herself a future UFC female bantamweight title match in the main event of UFC on FOX 23 Saturday night.
Shevchenko (14-2) improved to 3-1 since joining the UFC, with the lone loss coming via decision to current titleholder Amanda Nunes. She also defeated former champion Holly Holm last year.
In the co-main event, Jorge Masvidal stopped Donald Cerrone’s run of four consecutive wins at welterweight, finishing him in the second round.
Francis Ngannou stopped former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski in the opening round with strikes, while Jason Knight submitted Alex Caceres to open the main card from the Pepsi Center in Denver.
Sam Alvey, Raphael Assuncao, Li Jingliang, Jordan Johnson, Eric Spicely and Marcos Rogerio de Lima all earned wins on FOX Sports 1, while Alexandre Pantoja and Jason Gonzalez were UFC Fight Pass winners.
