UFC 113: Oh, what a night
What a night. Shogun starts his era as champ, Kimbo is cut, and Paul Daley manages to get fired for perhaps the worst post fight action I have seen since Tank Abbot fought in the UFC. The frustrating thing about it is I am sure there are fans out there who also want to punch Josh Koscheck in the head and as someone who has watched as the 170lb weight class has become the most boring class in the UFC... The Best and the Worst
This has been a tremendously turbulent week for the sport of MMA. WEC 48 making its first stop on PPV was a resounding success from the Jung vs. Garcia lead in to the outclassing of Uriah Faber by Jose Aldo and 24 hours later Tito Ortiz is arrested on a charge of domestic abuse against his girlfriend Jenna Jameson. I would not be doing my job if I ignored the Tito story both because of the magnitude... [Read More...]
WEC 48: To buy or not to buy, that is the question
In an effort to write about something other than Kanye Miller and the “mayhem” he caused on Saturday night that has been poured over in every blog, vlog, website, Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare check-in, I thought I would focus on the MMA palette cleanser of the week WEC 48. Dana White’s newest challenge, take a free-model of extremely talented fighters on Versus and move it to PPV and charge... [Read More...]
Frankie Edgar playing second fiddle to a mockery
UFC 112 was a night of firsts; the first time in Abu Dhabi; the first time a UFC event took place outdoors; and the first time Dana White left a title fight before it was over. The source of his ire and most of the UFC fans was Anderson Silva’s embarrassingly disrespectful performance against Demian Maia. Dana White and many others have talked about Silva being pound-for-pound the greatest fighter... [Read More...]
A Case For The Tournament In MMA
Outside of Alistair’s domination in the K-1 tournament over the weekend I found myself pining for some sort of MMA fix and ended up in line at an Apple store wondering the legal ramifications of the Mata Leon on hapless individuals. However my love of freedom got the better of me and instead I got to thinking, with Bellator season 2 starting this week isn’t it about time for the UFC to bring a... [Read More...]
Mr. St. Pierre’s Neighborhood
This weekend was a great one for the UFC, their first trip into the 300+ movie theaters across the country seemed to be a boon for business and in the main event we got to see just how amazing Georges St. Pierre really is as he completely stifled Dan Hardy from the beginning of round one all the way to the final bell. But the question that haunts a fan like me, what is next for GSP? Looking at the... [Read More...]
Where There’s A Will, There’s A Way: A case for the longshot, Dan Hardy
UFC 111, it is a fight like this that makes mixed martial arts the sport we all love. Hours of debate, pages of speculation, and hundreds of videos look at fights like this from every angle possible. One of the pound-for-pound greatest fighters in the sport up against the brash underdog from Nottingham, with both men enlisting the help of other UFC superstars to create the sort of fight that fans love...
