Penn taking a headlining spot on the card. However, even despite Penn’s continued retirement, it appears White is still planning on taking his fight promotion to Hawaii in the near future.

The UFC card would take place inside Aloha Stadium, a venue seating 50,000 people when completely filled.

“We’re still working on that, but we want to do it,” said White, in a recent interview with MMAWeekly. “We’re coming regardless (of the Penn situation). But that was the fight I really wanted to do there.”

While nothing is set, it is possible Penn could decide to come back to MMA once an event is confirmed for Hawaii. Penn decided to hang up his gloves after falling to Nick Diaz at UFC 137 but has since come out to say he might be willing to return once his batteries are recharged if the situation is right.

Now it appears the UFC may be open to obliging the request with an opponent already in mind – Nick Diaz.

Diaz, who Condit outpointed last night at UFC 143 in the evening’s main event, was seen by numerous fans, fighters, and media members as having deserved the victory based on his aggression as opposed to Condit’s calculated counter-attack in the extremely close contest. While UFC President Dana White was not among them, stating he felt Condit deserved the judges’ favor, he apparently understands the argument against it and would be willing to put the fight together if both sides agree to terms.

“It’s crazy, but…I was thinking about it after the fight,” said White in an interview with MMAJunkie. “People are bitching, and people think that was close…we could do that fight again before GSP comes back.”

However, White isn’t ready to force Condit into an immediate rematch with Diaz nor does he know if Diaz has any interest in continuing his MMA career based on his post-fight statements about retirement.

“It depends on Carlos, too. Carlos has got to say – and Nick’s got to say, ‘I want to fight him again,’ too,” White explained.

Fighters facing off in back-to-back bouts is not without precedent, such as when Frankie Edgar and B.J. Penn squared off in consecutive clashes after “The Answer” barely beat Penn the first time around.

And, as always, UFC President Dana White will be offering MMA fans a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on before, during, and after such a big event.

In the first episode of White’s video blog, we see plenty of action from this past Saturday’s UFC on FOX 2 card, an event boasting fights like Rashad Evans-Phil Davis, Chael Sonnen-Michael Bisping, and Demian Maia-Chris Weidman.

The blog shows you several moments before the fights and even more after, including Joey Beltran weeping after his knockout loss and a final segment between White and Weidman, the latter of whom cut several pounds in just a few short days to take on Maia on short notice.

“Go home and hit the buffet with (Matt) Serra,” White joked with Weidman in the backstage area. Serra, a former UFC champion, is one of Weidman’s primary coaches.

However, White came face-to-face with the real deal late last week while in Chicago for UFC on FOX 2.

While doing a media appearance for the show at WGN, the central hub of Chicago broadcasting for years, White stumbled upon the set from the long-loved Bozo Show where he was inclined to investigate further.

The scene is one of the numerous humorous bits captured in his latest video blog where he also jokes around with Joe Rogan about the UFC’s battle with hackers and attends the weigh-ins including a close-up perspective of the face-offs.

Lawal and Santos, who are both currently facing discipline after testing positive for PED usage, each made excuses for the result rather than showing genuine accountability for having slipped up.

Specifically, Santos said she had taken a substance she wasn’t completely familiar with as a means of helping her cut weight, while Lawal explained the drug in his system was part of a supplement he’d bought over the counter at a fitness supply chain.

UFC President Dana White addressed the topic in an interview with MMAFighting where he showed little sympathy for either disgraced athlete, especially in terms of how they’d handled the post-test fallout.

“If you get caught doing something, admit you did it,” said White. “The whole ‘Somebody put something in my system that I didn’t know about?’ I mean, who here lets someone put sh*t inside them that you don’t know what it is?”

“Anybody that’s ever said that they didn’t know what’s being put in their body is full of sh*t,” the outspoken executive concluded while saying he’d rather see fighters own up to their mistake instead of tap-dance around it.

Lawal is not planning to appeal his failed test, hoping instead the NSAC will be lenient based on his admission of guilt, while Santos is fighting the CSAC’s sentence of a yearlong suspension.

Speaking with Ariel Hellwani for the UFC post-fight show on FUEL TV, White made it known that he is happy with how Melvin Guillard acts, that Chael Sonnen will face Anderson Silva if he defeats Michael Bisping despite Sonnen talking Jon Jones/Georges St. Pierre, and the UFC heading to Atlanta is not a done deal – yet.

On the Sonnen-Silva II front, Sonnen claimed in an interview Friday that if he defeated Bisping at next Saturday’s UFC on FOX 2 card, “The Spider” would not agree to fight him. Instead, Sonnen said he would go after the UFC light heavyweight or welterweight championship.

“I, 100 % right here, now, guarantee that if Chael Sonnen wins that fight, Anderson Silva will fight Chael Sonnen this summer,” said White, who added that it is possible the bout would go down in Brazil.

We’ve all overreacted at some point in our lives to something. I do it all the time when watching a hockey or football game, and I’m willing to bet that most of you reading this overreact or react on instinct and emotion to sports as well.

So when Dana White overreacts to certain aspects of his company, like fights not delivering or his fighters doing something stupid, it’s to be expected.

The difference between you, me, and White is that he’s in charge of a multi-million dollar company.

P.S. - If you’re reading this and you’re in charge of a multi-million dollar company, hook a brother up with a job.

Moving forward, on Thursday night Dana fired Miguel Torres for an unfunny tweet about a rape van. Dana didn’t see the comment prior to being interviewed in Canada by Michael Landsberg, but made the decision shortly after the interview to release Torres without talking to the bantamweight star.

Earlier in the day, Rashad Evans made a comment about Penn St. and their child molestation scandal directed towards his upcoming opponent and PSU alum Phil Davis. Instead of firing or fining Evans, Dana talked to the former UFC champ, let him explain himself, and decided that Rashad was sorry and that it wouldn’t happen again.

We all see the double standard here. Even though Rashad’s comment was far worse than Miguel’s, Miguel was the one released because he’s never headlined a PPV that did a million buys. Lets not look at the double standard though.

Instead, lets look at Dana and his overreaction to one situation and his sensible reaction to the other. With Torres, he was essentially blindsided with news of the tweet and reacted immediately without giving the fighter a chance to explain himself. With Rashad, even though his comment was made just a few feet away from White, he claims he didn’t hear the comment but once he got news of it, he let Rashad explain himself.

It’s not like this is the first time Dana has overreacted to a situation. The problem with his overreactions though is that he always takes the extreme. It’s either the worst thing in the world to happen or the best. There’s no middle ground with him. And once again, when you’re the head of a multi-million dollar company, it’s probably not the best idea to take the extreme.

When Quinton Jackson had his run in with the law or certain female reporters, Dana allowed “Rampage” to explain himself and let him off with nothing more than a warning, much like he did with Evans.

When Junior dos Santos defeated Cain Velasquez in 64 seconds, Dana overreacted to the negative extreme. He was obviously upset that his big main event lasted just over a minute, but instead of praising JDS, he instead decided to bury both fighters on national TV.

When Jason Miller lost to Michael Bisping last weekend, Dana took to Twitter to call it, “the most one-sided fight in UFC history,” even though there was a fight not three hours before that was more one-sided. Once again, it was an overreaction to the negative extreme.

When Frankie Edgar came back to defeat Gray Maynard at UFC 136, Dana took the positive extreme and called Edgar the #2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

There are plenty of other examples of Dana reacting to one extreme or the other to all kinds of situations. Unfortunately it’s usually more negative than positive, but I get it. Dana is a very emotional guy. If you don’t believe me, just watch him and Joe Rogan scream at everyone to order the PPV even though we can hear him just fine.

We can all agree that Dana has done great things for the sport of MMA and that the UFC likely wouldn’t be in this position if someone else were in charge. He’s a guy that inspires confidence in his group, thanks in large part to his emotions. But that emotion is going to get him into trouble, especially now that he’s even more in the public eye thanks to the FOX deal.

Personally, I think Dana needs to step back a little bit. Right now he’s the face of the UFC. Whether he’ll admit that or not, he is. He’s the most public figure in the company. He has the most twitter followers, he’s in the Bud Light commercials, he does more interviews than any other figurehead in any other major sport, and he does video blogs every week, and he’s always in the public eye.

When you’re as emotional as Dana and when you’re in front of the public as much as Dana, you’re going to say stupid things. It’s the environment he’s created. You want to know why guys like Forrest Griffin, Torres, and Evans make rape and molestation jokes or why guys like Frank Mir say they want to kill other fighters? It’s because Dana, the head of the company, reacts on emotion and calls journalists “b*tches” and “c*nts” and throws around “f*ck” like it’s a football and he’s Aaron Rodgers.

Dana isn’t going to change his ways, but he can tone down just how much he does. Let Lorenzo Fertitta be in front of the camera a bit more at press conferences and on media calls, definitely don’t allow Dana to be front and center on the FOX shows like he was on November 12, and someone should probably monitor what he puts out on twitter as well.

MMA is a sport where guys get paid to punch each other in the face. We shouldn’t expect them to act like Taylor Swift, although they could learn a few things from her about how to become a media darling, but they have to know when they’re crossing line. But before Dana can police his fighters, he needs to do a better job policing himself.

White spoke about the wunderkind’s performance in the post-event press conference where he started things out by eating a bit of crow in regards to recent comments about Jones not being in the “pound-for-pound” discussion along with Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre.

“When I went into the ring (after the fight), he grabbed me and said, ‘Will you give me my pound-for-pound respect now?’ And I said, ‘I will shut the hell up now. You did it.’,” White joked.

“The great thing about (the outcome) is how serious ‘Rampage’ took this fight. He’s been up here in Denver for a long time…he was in great shape. His face was lean, he had abs. He came to win this fight. (Jackson) only cut six pounds for the fight the day of the weigh-ins which is incredible,” White continued. “Let me tell you what – Jon Jones is the man.”

As far as whom White feels could be the one to pose a serious challenge to Jones, the UFC President remained fairly neutral while giving credit to the light heavyweight division’s depth.

“The beauty of the 205-pound division is that it’s stacked. There’s a lot of tough guys out there. And I’ll tell you what, Rashad (Evans) just came off an awesome performance against Tito (Ortiz). He looked really good. Both these guys want this fight, there’s been a lot of smack-talk leading into this fight, and then we’ll see what happens with (Mauricio) “Shogun” Rua and Dan Henderson.”

However, White left the door open too in terms of Jones potentially cleaning house during a Silva-like run, saying he’s already talked to the 24-year old champion about possibly giving heavyweight a go in that type of scenario.

One of the few constants in Mixed Martial Arts is the likelihood of change, especially when it comes to the lineup for any given card. That very concept played out this week in regards to UFC 133 after it was announced undefeated light heavyweight Phil Davis had withdrawn from the August 6 show due to an undisclosed injury and would be replaced in his headlining bout against Rashad Evans at the event.

Within hours rumors had already surfaced relating to who would slide into Davis’ vacancy with Lyoto Machida initially looking like the frontrunner to fill the spot. However, in the end, former long-standing divisional champ Tito Ortiz stepped up to the plate after already notching an impressive win over Ryan Bader earlier this month.

UFC President Dana White discussed the entire situation and offered his insight on the UFC 133 main event earlier today in a conference call with media and Five Ounces of Pain wwas be on hand to relay interesting nuggets of information and relevant soundbytes back to the public.

Read ahead and find out what White thinks about Ortiz’s willingness to take the fight, Machida’s change of heart after initially accepting the match-up, and the situation in general…

Dana White:

- Was informed last week about Davis’ knee who had a MRI on Monday to determine the damage where it was revealed he wouldn’t be able to fight, said Davis hadn’t been able to kickbox for the last 2 1/2 weeks
- Explained Machida originally accepted the fight and was excited about it but came back asking for “Anderson Silva money”
- White told Machida when he accomplishes what Silva has he can make Silva’s money
- Ortiz called him late Tuesday night and said he’d reconsidered after initially declining it
- Confirmed Ortiz did not ask for more money
- White honestly felt Ortiz’s last fight in the UFC, perhaps MMA, was going to come against Bader and didn’t renegotiate his salary as a result (hence Tito’s $450,000 payday at UFC 132)
- Said Ortiz won’t be top contender if he beats Evans but he’ll definitely be “in the top three”
- Referred to how close Ortiz’s fights have been while crediting his BJJ and said the difference between him and some of his “old school” peers is how well his chin has held up
- If Ortiz had refused the fight the UFC would have looked at Vlad Matyushenko who is already booked for the card
- Evans told him he didn’t care who the opponent was and he was down to fight at the event regardless
- Said Davis was still “100%” down to fight at UFC 133 even with his injury but the company wasn’t willing to risk his long-term health
- Still shocked by Machida agreeing to the fight, then coming back with a financial demand, but doesn’t envision it affecting future discussions between the two sides
- Using a Strikeforce light heavyweight was never an option and alluded to how thin their 205-pound division is
- Said Davis will only need to rehab his knee and surgery won’t be required, will offer a specific condition later this week
- Thinks Evans’ ring-rust could play a big factor in the fight
- Hasn’t spoken to Machida’s camp since the initial request for more money
- Joked that he wanted to get off the phone with Ortiz before be changed his mind about taking the fight
- Said Chris Leben and Chael Sonnen both texted him and asked for the Evans fight
- Confirmed Evans will still receive a title-shot if he beats Ortiz
- Ortiz was the first person White called based on how recently he’d competed
- Closed the call commenting on the Rory MacDonald vs. Mike Pyle fight where he expressed a lot of excitement about the match-up based on both being on the cusp of breaking into the next plateau of opponents

Jackson, who stated he felt he needed to defend his camp after Dana White’s pointed remarks about the job done in Nate Marquardt’s corner during his UFC 122 loss to Yushin Okami, sent an email to MMAFighting earlier this week to explain his position while offering statistical analysis to support it.

As revealed by Jackson, of the twenty-two UFC events occurring thus far in 2010, fighters from his camp won an event-related bonus twelve times (an average of more than half and essentially a third of the total awards). Specifically mentioned in a follow-up conversation were recent performances by Carlos Condit and Jon Jones.

“It didn’t bug me until Dana said it,” Jackson explained. “Fans are fans, but Dana said that and, you know, I’ve worked really hard in his organization. If you look at my stats, they’re insane. Imagine you give your life to something and then your boss comes up and says, ‘Man, you suck.’ Well, wait a minute, just this year alone, half your bonuses have gone to my guys. So what are you talking about?”

In addition to Marquardt, Jones, and Condit, other regular members of Jackson’s MMA in New Mexico include Keith Jardine, Rashad Evans, Diego Sanchez, Joe Stevenson, and a number of other respected Mixed Martial Artists fighting in the UFC and all other major promotions.

With the UFC‘s recent announcement that Zuffa, LLC had sold a minority percentage of the company to the Abu Dhabi based, Flash Entertainment, UFC President Dana White recently took some out of his always busy schedule to share his thoughts on the recent deal in a Q&A session at UFC.com.

On why the deal took place:

We view this as the perfect strategic partnership to help us grow this business and fast track our expansion into other parts of the world… So this deal is a perfect strategic partnership. These guys are awesome strategic partners to help us reach that goal even faster.

On what Flash Entertainment is all about:

Flash is an independent live events and entertainment organization based in the UAE. Its sole shareholder is the Government of Abu Dhabi… The guys who run this company are young, hip, aggressive visionaries. They are big thinkers.

On the affect it will have on UFC operations:

As for the day to day and how everything runs, it’s business as usual.

On the length of the deal:

This is not a short-term investment. Flash is a long-term partner that understands the dynamics of our business model.

In closing:

I’ve been saying for years that UFC is going to become the biggest sport in the world. With this new partnership in place, it’s going to happen even faster. These guys get it and they love the sport. We built a relationship with them over the last few years, they’re guys we like, respect, and trust, and we know that they’re the perfect strategic partners. We made all the right moves over the years, done all the right things along the way, and we know that this is a good thing for the sport.

Although reports have swept through the mixed martial arts news front recently stating that UFC President Dana White and M-1 Global have been in discussions regarding possibly signing either Fedor Emelianenko or Gegard Mousasi, FiveOuncesofPain.com has recently been able to confirm that no such discussions have taken place through sources close to M-1 Global.

White was quoted during this weekend’s UFC 108 card stating that talks between himself and M-1 Global President Vadim Finkelchtein had been underway recently, but apparently recently could be mean a few different things, as no such discussions have occured according to Finkelchtein, who went a step further to add that both Fedor and Mousasi are completely happy where they are with Strikeforce for the time being.

Numerous news outlets were recently reporting on a Twitter message that has since been confirmed as being a fake through Finkelchtein, who recently had this to say via M-1 Global.com:

Today I heard the rumors of me allegedly stating on my twitter account that we are negotiating with the UFC. I want to state that there are no talks with the UFC whatsoever. Our partner in the USA is STRIKEFORCE, we are happy to cooperate with STRIKEFORCE. Fedor (Emelianenko) and Gegard (Mousasi) fight there and they are quite happy with the conditions and how they are treated with respect there. Finally, I don’t have any account on Twitter. The account that ignited the rumors is false. Our attorneys are already aware of the situation and shortly this fake account will be deleted.

The news that something might be up with UFC heavyweight champion and former WWE megastar Brock Lesnar first showed it’s ugly face as a possible case of mononucleosis, the diagnosis quickly downgraded to a severe intestinal infection, to where it is currently: A big question mark.

According to White, the news surrounding the condition of Lesnar will be coming down by the end of next week.

“If the doctors say things are going well and going in the right direction, then hopefully in a couple months he’ll be back,” said White following UFC 108. “If he’s not, and the doctors say it’s not going in the right direction, then maybe he’ll have to retire or take a break for a couple of years.”

Lesnar has not seen action since his July mugging of Frank Mir at UFC 100.

Mir is currently expected to face off with Shane Carwin at UFC 111 in a bout that is anticipated for March to determine the promotion’s interim champion in Brock’s absence.
