Sources close to the agreement have indicated to 5 Oz. that the promotion’s founder and current majority owner, Terry Trebilcock, still has a controlling interest in the company.

FiveOuncesofPain.com has also been able to learn that the debut of King the Cage on HDNet in 2010 will kick off with a show targeted for March 26 from Reno, Nevada.

King of the Cage is one of the longest running mixed martial arts promotions in the business, being founded in 1998 by current owner, Terry Trebilcock. KOTC has spawned a handful of the best fighters in the sport, with names such as Rashad Evans, Joe Stevenson, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Diego Sanchez all calling the promotion home at some point in their decorated careers.

Born in London, Burnett is a British television producer famous for having tremendous success in a variety of different reality programs. Some of the more notable productions of Burnett include Survivor, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, Eco-Challenge and The Apprentice.

HDNet is currently home to the enormously popular Inside MMA as well as all of the live Maximum Fighting Championship broadcasts scheduled for 2010.

FiveOuncesofPain.com is currently awaiting comment from representatives from HDNet and will keep you updated on any response we receive.

On the heels of the monumental UFC 100 there will be another figurestone in the face of mixed martial arts celebrating it’s 100th anniversary this evening.

Unless you”re a fight fan that has been inhabiting the bottom portion of a rock on some deserted island you’re well familiar with the enormously successful television series that goes by the name of “Inside MMA“. The highly informative TV show hosted by the likes of MMA legend Bas Rutten, Kenny Rice and Ron Kruck has become the visual companion for anyone bitten by the dangerously contagious MMA bug.

Inside MMA will be hosting a very special 100th episode at it’s normal place and time on HDNet this evening, Friday, 9:00 pm ET and I suggest that all of you fight fans that want to give back to a show that has given so much to us tune in for what should be a memorable episode. If you don’t have HDNet, contact your local cable provider and insist that they add the network.

Inside MMA has done nothing but spread the gospel of mixed martial arts since it’s inception in September of 2007 to countless fans that may have had little or no prior knowledge of the sport, filling a huge void in the world of MMA.

“Inside MMA was the first television show dedicated to reporting news in the MMA world,” said HDNet Fights CEO Andrew Simon in an exclusive conversation with FiveOuncesOfPain.com on the eve of Inside MMA’s historic episode. “The show has experienced tremendous growth as HDNet transformed itself into Your Home for MMA.

“The broadcast has become a place for fighters to show their personalities and promotions to be seen on the national stage. Inside MMA has featured over 135 different promotions in 39 states and 12 countries in its first 100 shows! No other show even comes close. You can see the excitement when we take the show on the road now….like this past weekend at Strikeforce. Inside MMA is like the “Sportscenter” of our business. Fighters hope to see their highlights on the show.”

When 5 Oz’s asked MMA legend and current HDNet Fights President Guy Mezger his thoughts on the future of Inside MMA, and the sport along with it in 5-10 years he was candid, stating,”I see Inside MMA growing into “THE” news show for all MMA. The grow of Inside MMA and mixed martial arts as a sport go hand in hand. ‘IMMA’ only gets bigger as MMA gets bigger. I would like to see MMA grow past one or two major organizations. I feel for real grow it needs to be more open and less inclusive. If the Muhammad Ali Act was to also cover MMA then would see more opportunities for the MMA athletes.”

Simon shared Mezger’s enthusiasm for the future of the sport, Inside MMA and HDNetFights along with it, explaining,”We will continue to be Your Home for MMA. HDNet has 12 events scheduled between August-October from around the world. Our mission is to bring the best fighters and promotions from around the globe to our fans. I think our fans are learning how good the international fighters are – Mousasi, Fedor, Anderson Silva, Aoki and others. If you are not paying attention to the international scene, you are missing some of the best fights and fighters in the world

“Even though this year we have over 30 events, 50 weeks of Inside MMA, 28 M-1 Challenge shows and 10 MMA Worldwide episodes…I see more in the future!”

Of course Inside MMA wouldn’t have the spark and pizazz it currently possesses if it wasn’t for the chemistry between show hosts and good friends Bas Rutten and Kenny Rice. According to Mezger, it’s their friendship away from the cameras that creates the magic we see unfold before our HD enabled television screens.

“They have a genuine friendship, and the whole crew gets along and are friends,” said the President of HDNet Fights. “It makes for great working environment and helps to make the whole show flow much smoother and more entertaining for the audience.”

As for the future of Inside MMA, don’t be surprised if you start seeing the broadcast popping up in different regions all over the globe in the near future. However, if you think you’re going to be seeing a Spanish or Portuguese broadcast team sometime soon you may be in for a surprise. Unless, of course, Kenny, Bas and Ron are well versed in the foreign tongues.

“Stay tuned,” revealed Simon. “Different parts of the world have expressed interest in the show, but Inside MMA wouldn’t be the same without Kenny, Bas and Ron. They make the show what it is.”

Dallas Mavericks and HDNet owner Mark Cuban was levied of charges by the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday of having been involved in insider trading.

According to a report by the Associated Press, federal regulators have filed a civil lawsuit in a Dallas court in which Cuban is accused of having unlawfully sold shares of stock in the search engine company Mamma.com, Inc. in 2004.

The report indicates that Cuban was invited to be brought in on a coming stock offering by Mamma.com under the condition of agreeing to keep information private.

The SEC is claiming that Cuban knew his stake — pegged at 600,000 shares, or 6 percent ownership in the company — would be sold below the current market price after learning that Mamma.com was raising money through a private investment in a public entity. The suit states that Cuban instructed his broker to sell all of his shares in the search engine company once he was privy to the information.

SEC officials are seeking to impose financial penalties and confiscate Cuban’s gains from the trades. Whether the former Broadcast.com owner faces criminal charges will be left up to the U.S. Attorney in Dallas.

“As we allege in the complaint, Mamma.com entrusted Mr. Cuban with nonpublic information after he promised to keep the information confidential. Less than four hours later, Mr. Cuban betrayed that trust by placing an order to sell all of his shares,” Scott W. Friestad, deputy director of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, said in a statement. “It is fundamentally unfair for someone to use access to nonpublic information to improperly gain an edge on the market.”

Speaking on Cuban’s behalf, attorney Ralph C. Ferrara said that Cuban intends to contest the suit.

“This matter, which has been pending before the Commission for nearly two years, has no merit and is a product of gross abuse of prosecutorial discretion,” Ferrara is quoted as saying. “Mr. Cuban intends to contest the allegations and to demonstrate that the Commission’s claims are infected by the misconduct of the staff of its Enforcement Division.”

Cuban also went on the record in a statement released to the press in which he proclaims his innocence.

“I am disappointed that the Commission chose to bring this case based upon its Enforcement staff’s win-at-any-cost ambitions,” Cuban said in the statement. “The staff’s process was result-oriented, facts be damned. The government’s claims are false and they will be proven to be so.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

This week, Hyun Gyu Lim (8-4) of Team South Korea takes on Team Finland’s Lucio Linhares (4-1-1). Linhares, a native Brazilian, represents Team Finland because he has been teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu there since 2001. Linhares is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and he faces a rock solid opponent in Hyun Gyu Lim of South Korea who will test Linhares’ standup skills. Linhares will want to take the fight to the ground but will he be able to control the pace and take it there? Or will Lim come out firing and try to end the black belt’s night early? The M-1 Challenge is being billed as the “World Cup of Mixed Martial Arts” and this bout is a true slugfest. Team France’s Martin Szoltysik (1-1) faces off against Red Devil’s Kiril Sidelnikov (3-2). Sidelnikov is coming out of the same camp that produced both Fedor and Aleksander Emelianenko. Both men are heavyweights and look to keep it standing so they can unleash huge bombs on one another. It’s a true David vs. Goliath battle as Szoltysik towers over Sidelnikov. Will Sidelnikov fulfill the role of the underdog and knock the big man out? This fight has a finish you will not want to miss!

This week’s installment of HDNet Fights’ Fight of the Week pits Gregor Gracie (2-1), an up and coming fighter from the legendary Gracie family, against Doug Gordon (8-6) from Ring of Combat XVIII. Gregor is training under the tutelage of fellow family member Renzo Gracie and is a raw MMA talent right now with world class jiu jitsu skills. His standup is something to be desired and that’s where Gordon will look to expose him and utilize his striking skills to hopefully put Gracie down for the count. This fight has an ending that you absolutely will not want to miss!

In this week’s installment of HDNet Fights’ Fight of the Week we are treated to the first ever IFL lightweight championship fight between Team Tompkins and Xtreme Couture member Chris Horodecki and Team Quest fighter Ryan Schultz. Horodecki is undefeated in his MMA career going into this fight and has previously beaten Schultz via TKO at a previous IFL event. Horodecki has looked unstoppable in the IFL up to this point, beating opponents via TKO and winning decisions. Schultz hopes to use his wrestling technique to take Horodecki off his feet and pound him out from the top. Will Horodecki assert his dominance over Schultz again? Will Schultz get his revenge? This one is a vicious battle you won’t want to miss!

Horodecki’s next appearance will be at Affliction: “Day of Reckoning” when he takes on Dan Lauzon, the little brother of UFC lightweight prospect Joe Lauzon. It will be Horodecki’s first fight since the IFL shut its doors. Schultz on the other hand has chosen to go the path of fighting overseas for the Sengoku promotion. He lost his first fight in the lightweight grand prix but hopes to bounce back in his next scheduled bout for the Japanese promotion.

This week’s installment of the Fight of the Week features a heavyweight clash between Roy “Big Country” Nelson and Fabiano Scherner from IFL’s Las Vegas event this past February. This is Nelson’s first title defense as the heavyweight champion of the IFL as he takes on Team Quest product and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner Fabiano Scherner. Nelson’s next appearance inside the ring will be at Affliction: Day of Reckoning against slugger Paul Buentello.

“Big Country” is best known for his unimpressive physique but don’t let his belly fool you. The guy can flat out fight. He’s a renowned grappler and wrestler who also contains huge power in his hands. Scherner’s strategy will be to get him down and work his submission game from the top but it will be hard against someone the size of Nelson. Will Nelson be able to keep it standing and unload his big bombs? Or will Scherner be able to take Nelson down and work his BJJ game from the top? Watch the fight to find out!

The events that will be televised on HDNet will be 60-90 minute specials to air immediately prior to major Affliction pay-per-view events, similar to the format utilized between Affliction and Fox Sports Net prior to the promotion’s first show on July 19.

The agreement between HDNet and Affliction will commence during Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” show on Oct. 10 in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center.

“This is the beginning of a long-term partnership with Affliction that encompasses live MMA, co-marketing and top fighters for the top weekly show in MMA – Inside MMA on HDNet,” HDNet Fights CEO Andrew Simon is quoted in the release. “Affliction has quickly become one of the top organizations in MMA which means it is a must have for HDNet.”

According to the press release, three matches will air beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET with Kenny Rice, Bas Rutten, and Ron Kruck handling the broadcast duties.

In this week’s installment of HDNet Fights’ Fight of the Week we have former IFL featherweight champion and current WEC top ten featherweight Wagnney Fabiano (10-1) squaring off against the highly touted Shad Lierley (2-2) out of Ken Shamrock’s camp. This fight is a title defense for Fabiano who was the first ever IFL featherweight champion after a submission victory over L.C. Davis in the IFL Grand Prix. Fabiano just recently announced that he has signed with the WEC where he will most likely contend for the 145 lbs. title against current champion Urijah Faber sometime down the road.

Shad Lierley shocked the world when he took Chris Horodecki to decision at an IFL event a little over year ago, almost defeating the Xtreme Couture prospect in the process. Once the IFL created a 145 lbs. weight class it only made sense for Lierley to drop down to his normal fighting weight and face off against the champion Wagnney Fabiano. Fabiano looks to show the world why he’s ranked in the top ten by showing that he not only has submission skills but striking skills as well. Lierley is a very tough kid and proved it in his loss to Horodecki but will Fabiano’s skills be far too much for him at his natural weight class? Or will Lierley scrap his way to a victory? You will not want to blink during this fight!

In our second installment of HDNet Fights’ Fight of the Week, we have a classic brawl between light heavyweights from Maximum Fighting Championships 16. Jason Kuchera (3-2) and Aron Lofton (3-0), two relative newcomers to the mixed martial arts game, go at one another with everything they’ve got in a bloody war. This may not be the most technical fight in the world but it’s damn sure entertaining.

The two fighters are new to the sport which usually always makes for an exciting fight and this one does not disappoint. Kuchera, a Canadian fighter who occasionally trains with UFC fighter Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald, has devastated his previous competition in MFC with all three of his victories coming by way of TKO in the first round. In Aron Lofton, however, he faces an aggressive brawler who is a natural athlete. Lofton played collegiate football and started out in combat sports by entering Toughman contests so you can only imagine the fireworks that take place when these two brawlers step into the ring against one another.
