Two of the middleweight division’s top grapplers appear set for a showdown of submission skills in Sweden as news has surfaced of a match-up between Jeremy Horn (87-20-5) and Thales Leites (18-4) taking place on April 30 in Stockholm at Superior Challenge 7. Both men are currently in the midst of finding success outside of the Octagon with each only having fallen a single time since being pink-slipped by the UFC in 2009.

Word of the fight was first brought to light by Sherdog who confirmed the information with someone attached to the show’s production.

A veteran of more than a hundred professional bouts, Horn has won seven of his last eight in-ring encounters including six straight at one point with victories over Jason Guida, Brian Warren, and Sean Salmon. “Gumby” has been on hiatus since December when he notched the 58th overall submission of his career in the form of a Guillotine Choke over Lee McKibbin.

Though Leites may lack Horn’s experience he has also excelled since parting ways with the UFC and is no stranger to finishing things on the ground. The 29-year old Brazilian has tapped twelve of the eighteen opponents he’s beaten and won four of the five times he’s fought since a Split Decision defeat to Alessio Sakara at UFC 101. Also similar to Horn, Leites will be looking to kick of his 2011 campaign on a winning streak as he is coming off a submission victory of his own in the latter stages of last year.

The entirety of Superior Challenge 7 has yet to be revealed though it is believed Reza Madadi will take on Rich Clementi based on a recent online statement from the 10-2 Stockholm native with other appearances on the card expected from UFC veterans Hector Ramirez and David Bielkheden.

PRESS RELEASE / CHICAGO, Ill. (September 7th, 2010) — Bellator Season 2 Middleweight Semifinalist Bryan “The Beast” Baker will face off with dangerous MMA veteran Jeremy Horn at Bellator 30 as Bellator Fighting Championships returns to “Fourth Street Live!” on September 23rd from Louisville, Kentucky.

After suffering the first TKO loss of his career, Baker is ready to make his return to the Bellator cage. Impressive victories over Sean Loeffler and Eric Schambari put Baker in the Bellator Season 2 Middleweight Tournament Finals and a win away from having the chance at the Middleweight Championship. Knockout specialist Alexander “Storm” Shlemenko was the only fighter standing in Baker’s way, and the hard-hitting Russian proved too much for Baker to handle, as Shlemenko delivered a first round TKO ending Baker’s tournament run.

“The whole goal was to have a shot at the title, and I didn’t get to that point, so obviously there is disappointment,” said Baker. “I didn’t get much of a chance to show my abilities in that fight, but I’m excited I get another chance in Louisville to give the fans a good show.”

The chance Baker is referring to is at Bellator 30 when he battles one of MMA’s most experienced fighters in Horn on September 23rd in Louisville. Horn, a veteran of over 100 fights since his professional career began in 1996, has fought MMA legends including Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, Dan Severn, Frank Shamrock and Anderson Silva. Horn holds impressive victories over the likes of Liddell, Forrest Griffin, Chael Sonnen and others during his decorated fighting career.

Baker is well aware of the experience the battle-tested Horn brings to the cage, but hopes to use it to his advantage.

“Knowing who Jeremy has taken on, it just makes me even more focused for this fight. Fighting an opponent with a history like that, it pulls the better fighter out of me, and I’m excited for Bellator 30,” said an eager Baker. “Everyone knows Jeremy has made his career off of his submission moves, so I’m looking to stay on my feet. I’m more athletic than him, and my reach should give him all sorts of problems.”

For Horn, the longtime MMA mainstay sees the landscape of the sport changing in front of his eyes, and realizes that his vast amount of experience isn’t as valuable as it once was.

“As the sport progresses on, my experience starts to mean less and less in the ring,” said Horn. “I obviously have a good understanding of when to stay calm and when to turn things on, but for the most part, I feel like a lot of us are on a pretty level playing field. With a guy like Bryan, he is a well rounded fighter that doesn’t have a lot of weaknesses, and it’s just going to be a great fight.”

Not surprisingly, Baker and Horn aren’t the only ones looking forward to the matchup.

“Bryan was the favorite going into our Season 2 Middleweight Tournament, and deserves another high caliber fight to put him right back in the mix,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Jeremy Horn will be a perfect test for Bryan, and fans should be looking forward to a great fight.”

The event took place at the Spokane Arena in Spokane, Washington.

Horn managed to submit Jason Guida in the first round with a tight arm triangle, recording his 106th victory and second straight first round submission in the process.

Beerbohm battered Josh Martin with a brutal series of elbows on the canvas that opened multiple, deep gashes on the Bellator veteran, and ultimately brought a conclusion to the bout just minutes into the contest. Beerbohm extended his undefeated record to 13-0 with the win.

Following the bout Lyle took the opportunity to call out current Strikeforce lightweight title holder Josh Thomson, who was in attendance, perhaps scouting a future opponent.

Prangley made it four in a row when he stopped Dennis Reed early in the first by knockout, making a return to either Strikeforce or the UFC very likely for the South African born middleweight in the near future.

Fancy Pants fans make sure to check back later with 5 Oz’s as Lyle Beerbohm is currently hard at work penning an exclusive fighter blog on his experiences on this most recent TKO victory.

Talented middleweight prospect Rousimar Palhares’ next fight inside the UFC Octagon will take place on Jan. 17 at the O2 Arena in Dublin, Ireland against veteran Jeremy Horn.

The news is courtesy of a report by our friends at MMAjunkie.com.

Palhares, 8-2, last competed at UFC 88 this past September, where he suffered a unanimous decision defeat to former PRIDE welterweight and middleweight champion Dan Henderson. Prior to the fight vs. Henderson, Palhares had one other bout in the UFC, making his debut at UFC 84 in May where he submitted Ivan Salaverry with an armbar at 2:36 of round 1.

Horn is 80-18-5 in documented MMA fights and has performed in the UFC during the course of several tours of duties. The 33-year old made his UFC debut in May of 1998 at UFC 17, where he lost to Frank Shamrock after submitting to a kneebar at 16:28 of round 1.

Horn’s most recent fight in the UFC took place at the live season finale for the seventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” where he was submitted by Dean Lister at 3:52 of round 1. The loss dropped Horn to 1-3 in his last four bouts with all losses coming via submission. Prior to submitting to a triangle choke against Jorge Santiago during a 2007 Art of War event, Horn had not tapped in a fight since UFC 30 in 2001.

UFC 93 is scheduled to be headlined by a light heavyweight matchup featuring Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson. Additional matchups includes Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Mark Coleman, Denis Kang vs. Alan Belcher, Andre Gusmao vs. Antonio Mendes, and Marcus Davis vs. Chris Lytle.

Credeur trains out of the Gladiator Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he has served as both a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a mixed martial arts instructor in the past.

One of Credeur’s teammates at the Academy, Kyle Bradley, who also serves as Gladiator’s MMA instructor, will be making his UFC debut this weekend on the UFC 81 undercard against Chris Lytle in a welterweight battle.

A black belt under Rodrigo Medeiros, Credeur is 9-2 in his pro MMA career and has several notable wins, including a first round submission of Lance Everson in April of 2004.

The 30-year old has also suffered some notable losses as well, to the likes of Joey Villasenor and Chael Sonnen. In his second career pro right during King of the Cage 13 in 2002, Credeur tapped in the second round due to strikes from Villasenor. While competing for BodogFIGHT during their Costa Rica tapings in August, 2006, Credeur suffered a TKO against Sonnen at 2:18 of round 1.
