Jeremy Horn back in the UFC; to face Marquardt at UFC 81
Author: Sam CaplanAccording to UFC.com’s Thomas Gerbasi, Jeremy Horn has been tapped as the injury replacement for Thales Leites against Nathan Marquardt at UFC 81 on February 2 in Las Vegas.
It is not known whether Horn will be competing on a one-fight basis or if he’s been signed to a long-term contract.
Leites was scratched after suffering a hand injury while training.
Horn, who has fought in the UFC before, and even fought and lost in the main event of UFC 54 against Chuck Liddell, whom he had previously beaten at UFC 19 in 1999.
Horn has competed since 1996 and has compiled a documented record of 79-16-5, however, it’s widely accepted that he has competed well over 100 times throughout his career.
Nate Marquardt to face Thales Leites at UFC 81
Author: Sam CupittA fight between recent middleweight contender Nate “The Great” Marquardt (25-7-2, 4-1 UFC) and up and comer Thales Leites (12-1, 3-1 UFC) is set for UFC 81 according to MMAjunkie.com.
Marquardt is coming off a 1st round TKO loss to current UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva at UFC 73. Many considered “The Great” to be a tough match-up for the Brazilian but he was overwhelmed in the dying stages of round one. After renewing his contract with the UFC for reportedly another four fights, Marquardt is set to once again establish himself as a top contender in the 185 pound division.
Thales Leites is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt who is currently on a three fight win streak in the UFC after losing his UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter 4 finale against Martin Kampmann.
If Dan Henderson decides not to drop down from light heavyweight then one would have to assume a win for Leites would almost secure him a title shot in the shallow division. While a win for Marquardt could take him one step closer to another shot against “The Spider”.
This bout is scheduled for UFC 81 which currently features the much awaited debut of Brock Lesnar versus ex-UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir. Also on the card is potentially a Heavyweight championship bout featuring Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
