This month’s event will mark the 14-4 Camozzi’s first match-up since a 2-1 run in the Octagon with his most recent appearance being tapped out by Kyle Noke at UFC 127 in February. Prior to the defeat he had won four straight fights

More Shark Fights 15 bouts are expected to be announced in the near future.

The 27-8 middleweight’s release came after a decision loss to 185-pound champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza earlier this year in his previous promotional appearance, as well as a similarly scored defeat to Danilo Villefort at Shark Fights 13 in September.

While no official word on the 185-pounder’s status has been issued as of this report, Five Ounces of Pain was able to confirm the cut with a reliable source possessing intimate knowledge of the situation, as well as Strikeforce officials, and have learned Villasenor is currently seeking a fight.

“Smokin’ Joe” had won four consecutive bouts prior to his back-to-back losses but, averaging only a single fight per year since signing with the organization, struggled to find a consistent home in Strikeforce’s ring as far as staying active. The Greg Jackson team-member has twenty-two finishes in his twenty-seven wins. He holds career victories over respected competitors like Phil Baroni, Ryan Jensen, Tim Credeur, Jorge Santiago, and Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos.

Comparably, Masvidal weighed in at 168.75 pounds and will be looking for a second consecutive win by beating the powerful striker. He is 20-5 in his career and most recently won a split decision over Naoyuki Kotani last April.

The evening’s main event between Keith Jardine and Trevor Prangley had no such stumbling blocks with both fighters actually coming in below the “205″ mark. Jardine registered in at 204.5 pounds, while sometimes-middleweight Prangley came in at 202.75 pounds.

While speaking with EliteXC Vice President Jared Shaw on Monday, Shaw was unwilling to rule out the possibility of a Lawler vs. Villasenor fight being added to the card at some point but expressed that he felt the report should be treated as a rumor at this stage.

We contacted Lawler’s manager, Monte Cox, for comment on Monday, but our request was not immediately returned.

A Lawler vs. Villasenor fight appears uncertain at this point but one fighter who appears to be a lock for the Nov. 8 show is Nick Diaz.

Shaw has stated in separate interviews that with Murilo “Ninja” Rua and Beni Radach officially being added to the promotion’s Oct. 4 CBS show in Ft. Lauderdale it means that any possibility of K.J. Noons defending his lightweight title vs. Diaz is out the window. However, EliteXC still has plans for Diaz and Shaw indicated that he’s expected to be a part of the promotion’s Nov. 8 show, which will be televised on SHOWTIME.

Sources have also informed FiveOuncesOfPain.com that EliteXC would like to add Eddie Alvarez to the show. The plan would be to feature Alvarez and Diaz in separate fights and build to a possible fight between the two, which could be for a vacated EliteXC lightweight title if Noons and his camp do not answer the call to face a fighter the promotion has deemed as a number one challenger.

Villasenor and Rua last fought for the then-vacant EliteXC middleweight title in June of 2007 during the undercard of the EliteXC/Strikeforce co-promotion that featured Frank Shamrock vs. Phil Baroni. The 32-year old native of East Los Angeles lost the fight via second round TKO but has 3-0 in EliteXC since suffering the loss.

While speaking with FiveOuncesOfPain.com on Tuesday evening, EliteXC Vice President Jared Shaw categorized the chances of the possible rematch happening on Sept. 20 as as “highly doubtful.” Shaw added that “While it would be an exciting fight and a rematch that could happen down-the-line, I would give a ballpark estimate of that fight happening on Sept. 20 as less than 50 percent.”

Shaw did confirm that Villasenor is expected to appear on the card against a yet-to-be finalized opponent.

“It sounds like it’s going to be in my hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico,” Villasenor said. “We’re just waiting on confirmation of who it’s going to be (against).”

“They keep on bringing up Ninja’s name,” Villasenor said. “They’re bringing up other names, but Ninja is the one that is sticking out right now.”

A rematch against Rua would allow Villasenor the opportunity to avenge his only loss in the EliteXC organizaiton. The last time these two fought was in June of last year with Rua coming out on top with a second round TKO. Most recently Villasenor defeated Phil Baroni via TKO in round one and Rua toppled Tony Bonello in devastating fashion on the same card in May.

A win for either fighter would set up a possible rematch with current EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler. Lawler defeated Rua in September of last year to win the EliteXC middleweight championship. Villasenor dropped a fight against Lawler at PRIDE 32 in Las Vegas in 2006. Both men have a score to settle with the current champion and this fight could be billed as a #1 contender matchup in EliteXC’s middleweight division.

According to the report, Stout also recently signed a four fight contract extension with the UFC.

Stout has a lifetime record of 2-3 in the UFC and lost his most recent bout in April to Rich Clementi at UFC 83. Clementi was declared the winner via split decision. Prior to his loss at UFC 83, Stout was victorious over Per Eklund via a unanimous decision at UFC 80 in January.

Etim, a native of the UK, is 10-2 overall according to Sherdog’s fight finder but just 1-2 in the UFC since making his debut for the promotion at UFC 70 last April. In that bout, Etim submitted Matt Grice with a guillotine choke at 4:38 of round 1. Since that fight, he has suffered back-to-back losses, first to Gleison Tibau at UFC 75 last September and most recently to Rich Clementi at UFC 84 in May.

Thus far the only officially announced bout for UFC 89 is a featured middleweight match between Michael Bisping and Chris Leben. However, several other matches have been reported for the card in recent days.

This listing goes against a widely accepted report from MMA Junkie back in February that Etim would take on Jeremy Stephens. In my recent MMA blog travels I haven’t noticed anyone disputing Junkie’s report or mentioning a possible injury to Stephens that would have kept him out of the bout.

It must be noted that UFC.com never officially announced Etim vs. Stephens. It just seems strange to me that Stephens would announce that he has signed a bout agreement to fight Etim but then for the fight to fizzle out without anyone really noticing. Whatever the reason, it will most likely come out in the next few days.

Stephens’ “replacement”, Rob Emerson (7-6) is coming off a split decision victory over Keita Nakamura at UFC 81 back in February.

Update: MMA Junkie has now confirmed that Stephens had to pull out of the bout with Etim due to a “minor legal situation.”

Both fighters have agreed to the fight and will soon sign bout agreements.

 Stephens has had two straight victories in the octagon after losing his UFC debut to Din Thomas at UFC 71. He decisioned Diego Saraiva at UFC 76 and most recently stopped Cole Miller in the 2nd round of their fight at UFC Fight Night 12.

Etim is coming off a decision loss to Gleison Tibau at UFC 75 and come from behind submission win over Matt Grice at UFC 70.

UFC 84 is set to feature a lightweight title fight between current champion, B.J. Penn and former champion, Sean Sherk.
