A welterweight matchup between Korean sensation Dong Hyun Kim and veteran Canadian fighter Jonathan Goulet is set for UFC 100 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on July 11.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com was informed on Friday afternoon by sources close to one of the fighters that the rumored fight has now been signed. The two fighters will be looking to rebound from losses sustained in their most recent fights.

Kim, 11-1-1, suffered the first loss of his career at UFC 94 in January when Karo Parisyan was declared the victory in their bout via split decision. The South Korean fighter had won his previous two contests in the UFC against Jason Tan at UFC 84 and Matt Brown at UFC 88.

Meanwhile, Goulet, 22-10, TKO’d just 33 seconds of round 1 against Mike Swick during the UFC’s “Fight for the Troops” event in Fayetteville, North Carolina this past December. The defeat reduced Goulet’s lifetime record in the UFC to 4-4.

While the UFC has yet to officially announce any bouts for the card, the show is expected to feature Georges St. Pierre defending the UFC welterweight title vs. number one contender Thiago Alves in addition to Goulet vs. Kim. Also expected is a head-to-head showdown between rival coaches from the upcoming ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter, Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping.

Also possible for UFC 100 is heavyweight title unification bout between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir that had been scheduled for May 23 at UFC 98 but was postponed due to Mir’s recent knee surgery.

Two other reported matchups include Stephan Bonnar vs. Mark Coleman and Matt Grice vs. Shannon Gugerty. And according to MMAjunkie.com, talks are taking place regarding a middleweight matchup between Yoshihiro Akiyama and Alan Belcher.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com has learned that UFC welterweight competitor Jonathan Goulet has been offered a fight against Tamdan McCrory during a tentatively scheduled UFC 97 event that could take place on April 18 in Montreal, Canada.

A source close to Goulet confirmed the rumored matchup to FiveOuncesOfPain.com on Tuesday night but was quick to add that the bout has not been finalized and that the Canadian fighter must receive medical clearance before he could accept the fight.

Goulet, 22-10, suffered multiple injuries last month during a first round TKO loss to Mike Swick during the UFC’s “UFC Fight for the Troops” event in Fayetteville, North Carolina. During the bout, Goulet not only suffered a knee injury but he required a brain scan that was conducted at a local hospital following the loss.

McCrory, 10-2, is also coming off a loss. The 22-year old fighter submitted to a reverse armbar by Dustin Hazelett at 3:59 of round 1 during UFC 91. The defeat reduced his record inside the Octagon to 2-2 and gave him two losses in his last three fights.

If finalized, UFC 97 would emanate from the Bell Centre in Montreal. However, published reports indicate that the date has not formally been booked by the UFC because the availablity of the venue is not yet certain as it also serves as the home for the NHL’s Montreal Canadians. If the Canadians make the playoffs, the Saturday date could cause a conflict.

While no bouts have been officially announced by the UFC for the proposed fight card, it is believed that matchups between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites and David Loiseau vs. Ed Herman could be signed for the show.

Jonathan Goulet will have a huge opportunity in front of himself when he faces off with heavy favorite Mike Swick in the co-main event at tonight’s “UFC Fight for the Troops” card. A win over Swick, who has put together a perfect 2-0 record since making the move to welterweight, would catapult Goulet up the ranks in the UFC’s 170 pound division.

In an exclusive interview with FiveOuncesOfPain.com, Goulet explained that he has absolutely no championship aspirations for the time being. While his good friend and training partner Georges St. Pierre occupies UFC’s welterweight thrown, Goulet is content to be considered as one of the top fighters in his weight class.

“The Road Warrior” has never made it a habit to fight unqualified opponents so tonight’s fight with Swick should be business as usual. Goulet has fought a virtual who’s who in his weight class during the course of his career. Coming into his fight with Swick he has already tested himself against guys like Josh Koscheck, John Alessio, Dustin Hazelett, Jay Hieron and Luke Cummo with mixed results.

Timing can be everything. In a career that has spanned over seven years and has seen over 30 fights the time is definitely now for Goulet to let the world know that will be a problem for anyone at 170 pounds. Undefeated in his last three bouts with his last fight with Kuniyoshi Hironaka grabbing “Fight of the Night” honors, a win over Swick would force a lot of welterweights in the UFC to take notice.

Although the outstanding battle Goulet waged with Hironaka on the undercard of UFC 83 garnered him some well deserved attention and put a little bit of extra cash in his pocket, it did not come easily. The 29-year old fighter was rocked by a huge Hironaka left hand towards the closing moments of the first round and looked close to being finished just before the round came to an end.

“I was hurt bad,” said Goulet. “It was the worst last minute of my life. I got saved by the bell and I can’t describe it. It was like a nightmare. I saw the referee near me ready to stop the fight. I didn’t know that he stopped us because the round was over.”

Returning to his corner admittedly dazed and sporting a nasty mouse under right eye, Goulet knew that he had to do something drastic and that’s exactly what he came out and did. He started the second round with a visible sense of urgency and finished dangerous Japanese fighter with a whirlwind of strikes in one of the better welterweights wars in recent history.

“I got saved by the bell and that made me even more angry so I came out and finished the fight,” he explained.

His somewhat slow start in the bout with Hironaka came as no surprise to the Quebec-based fighter.

“I don’t know why but I always start out slowly in my fights,” said Goulet. “I always get in trouble and then I come back and finish the fight.”

All in all he is happy that the fight went the way it did because obtaining “Fight of the Night” honors is the ultimate goal for Goulet every time he enters the octagon. The fact that “Fight of the Night” implies that the winner will most likely have to come back from the brink of defeat before obtaining victory doesn’t bother him one bit.

“I wish I could get another fight of the night,” said Goulet. “Like when Dustin Hazelett said that he would rather have the submission of the night, I would much rather have the fight of the night. The fight with Hironaka was my second fight of the night so I hope to have a third.”

After fighting eight times in 2007 Goulet fought only twice in 2008 and has not entered the octagon since his war with Hironaka.

“I took some time off to train but unfortunately at the beginning of the year I injured myself,” explained Goulet. “I broke my foot twice on Patrick Cote during training.”

The time off gave Goulet some extra time to focus on a lot of the things he may not have been able to focus on had he kept up the same rigorous schedule as he had the previous year.

“I’ve been able to train for four months since that injury so I have been improving on a lot of things,” said Goulet. “I’ll be ready for my fight with Mike Swick.”

He’s had plenty of great people at the Tristar Gym in to help prepare him for this high profile bout.

“I’ve been training a lot with Denis Kang, Georges St. Pierre, Patrick Cote, and Mike Ricci,” said Goulet. “Ricci is a guy that a lot of people don’t know but he’s very well rounded. I have my muay thai and wrestling trainers and many other fighters that I train with as well. I am well surrounded.”

All of that hard work with many of Canada’s top mixed martial artists has paid off. Goulet is oozing with confidence going into his fight tonight.

“I feel perfect,” the seasoned fighter said. “My weight is perfect. Everything is perfect. I have worked very hard for this. I will be ready for my fight so I hope Swick will be ready for me.”

Styles make fights and this fight should be no exception. Swick will surely be looking to put on an impressive performance and as previously mentioned, Goulet is no stranger to an all out brawl.

“I think it’s a very good match up,” said Goulet. “He’s very good and he has a really good reach but I am very skilled as well. We have worked on my weaknesses and I think that’s the most important thing.”

“I think it will be a good war between me and him. I think Swick is no joke but it’s time to prove that I am no joke as well.”

If Goulet has it his way there will be a decisive ending in this bout.

“I hope to apply a big and beautiful submission on him and to finish the fight as soon as I can,” said Goulet.

After his “Fight of the Night” performance against Hironaka was the opening bout at UFC 83, it seems fitting that Goulet will have his opportunity to shine on the main card tonight. According to him the timing couldn’t be better.

“I’m really excited to be on the main card,” said Goulet. “My management told me that I would have a bunch of sponsors and the timing is perfect. It’s Christmas time so hopefully I can use that and go on vacation or offer some gifts for my family and especially my daughter. It’s perfect.”

Goulet has admittedly seen his ups and downs in his career. He hopes for this fight on the main card to be a sign of whats to come for himself in the future.

“Sometimes it goes well but other times it has gone bad for me,” said Goulet. “I just want to stay in top shape and focused so I can win my fight and always be on the main card.”

Just being on the main card and being considered among the best in his weight class is good enough for him. In a sport where training partners are increasingly likely to have to fight each other at one point or another, Goulet explains that he would never fight a friend under any circumstances.

“I don’t care about the title shot,” explained Goulet. “My friend, Georges St. Pierre, has the title. I will always be behind him in Canada and in the world so it will always be like this. That’s good enough for me. If I can be in the top five at my weight then I will be happy. I just want to fight, make money, pay my bills and be known as a good fighter. I would like to be a top welterweight. I stopped thinking about the title a long time ago and now I just want to be among the top at my weight.”

In closing, Goulet thanked MMA Fight Shop, MMA Agents and Tristar Gym.

Sources close to both fighters revealed the potential bout to FiveOuncesOfPain.com on Tuesday.

Bout agreements have yet to be presented but the matchup has been proposed to Goulet and Swick, who apparently have both expressed separate interest in taking the fight.

The two had been scheduled to fight last September at UFC Fight Night 11 until Swick had to pull out of the fight due to injury and was replaced by Dustin Hazelett. Despite taking the fight on short notice, Hazelett submitted Goulet at 1:14 of round 1 with an armbar.

Since the loss, Goulet has gone 3-0 with two of the wins having taken place inside of the Octagon. After taking a fight outside of the UFC, Goulet returned last December during the season finale for the sixth installment of TUF. Facing TUF 6 contestant Paul Georgieff, Goulet submitted him with a rear naked choke in round 1. He then fought in April during UFC 83 in Montreal, where he TKO’d Kuniyoshi Hironaka at 2:07 of round 2.

Swick had been announced as being scheduled to fight on Oct. 25 at UFC 90 in Rosemont, Ill by UFC President Dana White, who made the announcement during a promotional press conference. However, Swick would later contradict White and claimed a miscommunication had taken place, as he would not be ready to resume fighting until December after having undergone elbow surgery in July.

Swick, who rose to prominence during the debut season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” is 12-2 overall with a 7-1 lifetime record in the UFC. His one and only Octagon loss came as a middleweight against Yushin Okami in April of 2007 at UFC 69 in Houston. The loss prompted Swick to decide to move down to the welterweight limit of 170 pounds. Since making the move, he is 2-0 with wins over Josh Burkman at UFC Fight Night 12 and Marcus Davis at UFC 85.

Rio Heroes is planning on providing a free webcast of their Rio Heroes 12 tournament on Tuesday, November 27th at 7:00 PM EST. it will feature the Rio Heroes Middleweight Championship live from Brazil.

Rio Heroes had a wealth of issues with their broadcast last time, so let’s hope that they fix some things for this broadcast. Some things I’d like to see are more than one camera, instant replay, and a better quality stream.

I know I have bashed the hell out of Rio Heroes and I said there would not be a second time for me. However, I am going to give them a second chance this time around, hoping they will be able to handle the amount of visitors that come to their site. Either way, if you don’t have anything to do on a Tuesday night, it may be entertainment one way or another.

If you’re planning on watching, you’ll need to register for a username and password before the event. Click HERE if you’d like to sign up to watch the stream.

I took the time to see what all the hype was about last night. Rio Heroes had been advertising the piss out of their Rio Heroes 11: Super Lightweight Championship event. Needless to say, if you watched it, the entire event was a bust. Let me make a disclaimer, however, that vale tudo and NHB fighting are really not my thing. I like the sport much more the way it is now than it was back then. Just lettin’ ya know.

Throughout the broadcast they kept mentioning that they read the blogs and forums and that we should take it easy on them because of all the difficulties. Sorry, Rio Heroes, taking it easy on idiots is not in my repertoire.

Here’s my Top 10 reasons that Rio Heroes Sucked:

10. When your site runs perfectly until the moment your event is supposed to air and then crashes completely when the event is supposed to start, it’s time to rethink your strategy.

9. The fights were supposed to start at 7. Then 8. Then…ASAP. What the fuck?

8. The announcer, who is clearly coked out of his mind, comes on to tell us that due to their servers crashing they can’t do a regular broadcast. But instead of canceling it altogether, they said we’ll do it anyways. With one microphone and one camera. Great. Just great.

7. The one camera? It’s stationary. There’s fuckers sitting right next to the cage and they won’t move so the cameraman can get around to catch the action. If I was the promoter of this thing, I would have had everyone who was all up on the cage moving their asses back so my one camera can get the action. Great work, Rio!

6. They advertise this crap as “real vale tudo” when in fact it’s not that at all. Well, okay it sort of is. No gloves. No time limits. No holds barred. But standups? Give me a break. And bad standups too. Not like they’re laying on each other for 20 minutes. They were worse than some Herb Dean Cro Cop/Gonzaga BS.

5. The ring girl looks like somebody’s sister. And not in a good way.

4.5. The after fight interview guy, after every interview, goes “Let’s take it back to the control room!” What control room? There’s a single camera and a single mic. This does not constitute a fucking control room.

4. The cokehead who is announcing this garbage continually reminds us that the broadcast will be better next time and that they will have “instant replay.” Yeah fuckin’ right. For me there won’t be a next time.

3. Can you please get a full cage? One wall, three cage sides, and some matting is pretty lame.

2. At one point it looked like the lights dimmed in the “venue,” a.k.a garage. Someone forget to pay the electric bill at Rio Heroes?

1. They constantly reminded us that “these fighters could be fighting anywhere.” Yeah. Anywhere in the street.

PORRADA!
