There were multiple reports springing up earlier that stated that Kimo Leopoldo had died due to a heart attack at 41 years old and it has now been revealed that those reports were false.

Kimo’s attorney Victor Hobbs has since reported to Yahoo! Sports that the claims are false and Leopoldo has not passed away after all.

Kimo was one of the originals on the UFC roster and was made famous after his legendary fight with Royce Gracie at UFC 3. They were paired up in the first round of the tournament and Kimo ended up on the wrong end of a Gracie Jiu Jitsu armbar. Gracie however, was so exhausted after the encounter that he was unable to fight again.

Preventing Gracie from advancing on in the tournament for the chance of claiming his third strait, and what would have been the third of an eventual four UFC tournament titles, Kimo earned much respect as the first to gain any sort of victory over Gracie, even if only a personal one. He was also known for his strong religious beliefs as he even came out for his bout with Gracie with an awkwardly large cross on his back.

Kimo went on to fight for a 12 year career that ended in 2006 with an eventual record of 10-7-1. He fought 5 times for the UFC and fought the likes of Ken Shamrock, Royce Gracie, Kazushi Sakuraba, Dan Severn, Tank Abbot and Patrick Smith throughout his MMA career.

Published reports state that former UFC fighter Kimo Leopoldo was arrested on possession of a controlled substance in Long Beach, California on Monday afternoon.

TMZ was the first to report on the arrest earlier this afternoon.

Kimo, known just as much for his wide array of tattoos in addition to his fighting prowess, was spotted by police wearing a Long Beach Police Department uniform with right down to the patches and cloth badge. Officers searched Kimo’s vehicle where they found a small amount of what they believe to be meth.

The long-time veteran of the sport who once lost to UFC Hall of Famer Royce Gracie at UFC 3 was charged with possession of a controlled substance and remains in police custody. Police officials also will begin a full investigation as to how Leopoldo was able to obtain a police issue uniform.

UFC.com has announced three additional bouts for October 18th’s UFC 89.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship(R) (UFC(R)) has added three thrilling bouts to the organization’s next UK super-show. It has been confirmed that Rameau Sokoudjou will collide with Luiz Cane in a battle of light-heavyweight strikers, Japanese submission expert Akihiro Gono will take on on highly-regarded British debutant Dan Hardy and steel-fisted heavyweight Shane Carwin will exchange bombs with England’s own Neil Wain.

There are definitely some quality match-ups in there, however I am slightly disappointed that I might not to get to see Sokoudjou vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua anytime soon. Who knows, maybe if the “African Assassin” comes out of the Cane fight unscathed (which I doubt) we may get to see him take on Shogun in December.

UFC 89 is headlined by a middleweight contest between Michael Bisping and Chris Leben and is set to take place on October 18th at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.

The current rumored line-up is as follows:

Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben

Thiago Alves vs. Diego Sanchez*

Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou vs. Luiz Cane

Dan Hardy vs. Akihiro Gono

Shane Carwin vs. Neil Wain

Paul Kelly vs. Marcus Davis*

Jess Liaudin vs. David Bielkheden*

Samy Schiavo vs. Per Eklund*

Sam Stout vs. Terry Etim*

*Indicates rumored bout as foretold by MMA Weekly.com.

According to Fighters Only Magazine, U.K. welterweight Dan Hardy has signed a four fight contract with the UFC. The report says that the UFC intends to make Hardy “as big as Michael Bisping,” but no official announcement of the signing has been made yet.

Also according the report, Hardy was close to signing a deal with EliteXC but the negotiations with the UFC continued and Hardy ended up signing with them. He is expected to make his debut sometime this fall.

Hardy owns a 19-6 record and is one of the most popular and exciting fighters in the U.K. so it should be no surprise, with UFC moving into those markets, that Hardy is now a part of the promotion. Check out a nice highlight reel of Hardy after the jump.
