Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Marcus Jones was one of the more high-profile fighters to appear at today’s open tryout in Seattle, WA for the upcoming tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Spike TV executives confirmed the news to FiveOuncesOfPain.com and several other websites via an e-mail on Monday afternoon.

Jones, 3-2, is currently slated to compete at XFC’s “Regional Conflict” show on April 25 in Knoxville, Tenn. Drafted in the first round by the Bucs in the 1996 NFL Draft, the former Tar Heel made his MMA debut on Oct. 26, 2007 at a World Championship Fighting event, submitting Will Mora with a Kimura at 1:02 of round 1.

A talented grappler, Jones has honed his submission skills under the tutelage of Rob Kahn at Gracie Tampa in Florida. Kahn is a former Golden Gloves boxing champion and a Royce Gracie black belt. Gracie Tamp is responsible for five fighters appearing on the TUF series, including Alan “Monsta Lobsta” Berube, Brandon Sene, Shane Primm, Brian Mclaughlin, and Matt Arroyo.

In addition to Jones and 250 other contestants, former Texas Tech defensive lineman Rex Richards and former Green Bay Packers running back Herbert Goodman both tried out for the show.

Richards is a former member of the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad and a former Arena Football League standout. With a solid record of is 6-1, Richards has competed for both the King of the Cage and Strikeforce promotions. His most notable fight thus far was a first round submission loss to current UFC heavyweight title contender Shane Carwin during Art of War 4 on Oct. 27, 2007.

After graduating from Graceland University, a NCAA Division II school in Iowa, Goodman made the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2000. After receiving limited playing time behind standout tailbacks Ahman Green and Dorsey Levens, Goodman was able to show what he could do with extensive playing time when he led NFL Europe in rushing during the 2002 season with 877 yards as a member of the Scottish Claymores.

Goodman is 9-6 since making his pro MMA debut and recorded a second round knockout victory over former UFC middleweight Jordan Radev during an M-1 Challenge event in Bourgas, Bulgaria.

Jones, Richards, and Goodman aren’t the only other former NFL players vying for spots on TUF 10. Five Ounces of Pain also previously reported that former New York Giants offensive lineman Bobby Jones and former Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Matt Mitrione were planning on trying out for the show. We were unable to confirm whether either player attended today’s tryouts or instead were planning on applying via video.

The tenth season of TUF will be casting mixed martial artists in the middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions. It should be noted that a press released issued by Spike lists the heavyweight cutoff at 225 pounds.

EliteXC’s next ShoXC event has been scheduled for August 15 at the Table Mountain Casino in Friant, Calif., located just outside of Fresno.

The news was confirmed to FiveOuncesOfPain.com earlier this afternoon by EliteXC Vice President Jared Shaw.

According to Shaw, already scheduled for the card is a rematch between light heavyweight fighters Poai Suganuma and Jared Hamman. The two fought previously at the Table Mountain Casino on April 5. Hamman suffered his first loss as a pro after being rocked by a flying knee delivered by Suganuma. The fight was stopped amidst a chorus of boos, with many Hamman supporters feeling that the fight was halted early.

In addition to Suganuma vs. Hamman II, Shaw indicated that striking specialist Cyrille Diabate will make his EliteXC debut in a light heavyweight encounter against ShoXC veteran Jaime Fletcher.

Another high-profile debut is planned, with standout welterweight Judoka Hector Lombard scheduled for the card as well. Shaw indicated that EliteXC has a specific opponent in mind and that the promotion is in the process of finalizing a contract with the proposed fighter.

Two other matches are scheduled for the televised portion of the show as well, with female fighter Debi Purcell considered a likely candidate to be featured in one of the bouts
