Nate Mohr latest confirmed UFC release

News of recent releases made by the Ultimate Fighting Championship continues to circulate and FiveOuncesOfPain.com has confirmed that lightweight competitor Nate Mohr has been cut.

Mohr, 8-6, was let go from his contract by the UFC shortly after losing during last month’s UFC 93 event in Dublin, Ireland.

Facing German wrestling specialist Dennis Siver in a non-televised undercard bout, Mohr was TKO’d at 3:27 of round 3 after getting hit by a spinning back kick and then subsequently finished by punches.

The fight vs. Siver was Mohr’s first since UFC 79 in December of 2007. Facing Manny Gamburyan, he was forced to submit at 1:31 of round 1 following an Achilles lock. He was then sidelined for over a year after undergoing knee surgery.

Overall, Mohr is just 1-3 while competing under the UFC banner but it is believed that he could be brought back if he’s able to accumulate a series of wins outside of the organization.

He joins a confirmed list of recent releases by the UFC that includes Rich Clementi, Luigi Fioravanti, Eddie Sanchez, Christian Wellisch, Reese Andy, and Derek Downey.

Nate Mohr vs. Dennis Siver set to take place at UFC 93 in January

UFC lightweight competitor Nate Mohr is expected to return from injury to take on Dennis Siver at UFC 93 on Jan. 17 at the O2 Arena in Dublin, Ireland.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com confirmed the matchup on Monday afternoon with sources close to the fight.

Siver, 12-6, is a native of Germany with a strong amateur wrestling background. He’ll be returning to the Octagon after fighting outside of the UFC last month in Darmstadt, Germany at Mix Fight Gala VII. Siver was victorious after submitting Chas Jacquier with a guillotine at 4:21 of round 1.

Prior to the win over Jacquier, Siver was coming off two consecutive losses in the UFC. His two fight losing streak began at UFC Fight Night 12 this past January when he lost a unanimous decision to Gray Maynard. The streak was extended after he was TKO’d just 36 seconds into a fight against Melvin Guillard at UFC 86 this past July.

Mohr, 8-5, has not fought since losing to Manny Gamburyan at UFC 79 last December in Las vegas. Matched up against the former TUF 5 veteran in a preliminary bout, Mohr tapped to an Achilles lock at 1:31 of round 1. Prior to the Gamburyan loss, the Team Curran product had recorded a unanimous decision victory over Luke Caudillo at UFC Fight Night 10 in June of 2007.

UFC 93 is scheduled to be headlined by a light heavyweight matchup featuring Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson. Additional matchups includes Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Mark Coleman, Denis Kang vs. Alan Belcher, Andre Gusmao vs. Antonio Mendes, and Marcus Davis vs. Chris Lytle.

EliteXC announced during Friday’s ShoXC telecast that its next ShoXC will be held on Friday, March 21, in California.

ProElite.com (SamCaplan.ProElite.com) has learned that one of the feature matches will be a showdown between heavyweight prospects Jon Murphy and Shane DelRosario.

EliteXC has yet to formally announce the bout.

Murphy, 4-2, last competed in August in Jackson, Mississippi, winning his ShoXC debut against Dave Huckaba, knocking him out at 0:19 of round 2. This will mark his first fight since undergoing arthrosopic shoulder surgery in December. Murphy resumed training in early January.
