Former EliteXC star Brett Rogers’ long awaited return to the cage is now official for Strikeforce’s April 11 event at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

While the bout is still pending the approval of the California State Athletic Commission, FiveOuncesOfPain.com has confirmed with multiple sources that Rogers has been scheduled to take on former BET Iron Ring veteran Ron Humphries

Sources have also confirmed that the heavyweight tilt between Rogers and Humprhies will be one of five matches featured during Showtime’s telecast of the event. The new matchup will replace the previously announced welterweight matchup between Joe Riggs and Jake Shields that was canceled after Shields was shifted to a main event matchup against Robbie Lawler during Strikeforce’s May event.

Outside of Iron Ring competition, which were not considered sanctioned bouts, Humphries is 5-0, according to Sherdog.com’s fight finder. His last official bout was for the International Sport Combat Federation in December. Facing Nick Thomas, Humphries recorded a TKO victory just 2:02 of round 1.

He will look to improve to 6-0 on April 11 against Rogers, one of many fighters caught in limbo after ProElite suspended operations last October. As a result of the shutdown, Rogers has not competed since recording a first round knockout over Jon Murphy on May 31 of last year.

The historic fight vs. Murphy served as the first-ever mixed martial arts fight to be televised live on prime-time network television as a part of CBS’ Saturday Night Fights franchise. The win improved Rogers’ official record to 8-0 including notable wins under the EliteXC banner against James Thompson and Ralph Kelly.

Rogers had been scheduled to compete on Nov. 8 vs. Paul Buentello during a planned EliteXC event in Reno, Nevada but the entire card was canceled follow ProElite’s decision to suspend operations. A proposed fight vs. Josh Barnett during Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” in January was never finalized after ProElite and Affliction became embattled in an argument over territorial issues such as who would own the television rights to the fight.

Updated: Strikeforce Vice President Mike Afromowtiz contacted FiveOuncesOfPain.com on Wednesday to indicate that while Rogers is considered likely to appear on the April 11 card, Humphries has not been formally signed as an opponent. While Five Ounces of Pain stands by its sources close to the fight which claims an agreement was made for a Rogers vs. Humphries fight, Afromowitz expressed that there is a possibility the fight may not happen.

UFC.com announced today that a matchup featuring American Top Team fighter Wilson Gouveia taking on one of the pioneers of MMA, Jeremy Horn at UFC Fight Night 15. It’s unclear at this point whether the matchup will be contested at 185 lbs., which is Horn’s natural fighting weight, or whether it will be contested at Gouveia’s normal fighting weight of 205 lbs.

Both fighters are coming off of losses, Gouveia losing to Goran Reljic at UFC 84 in the second round via TKO. Before that, Gouveia had been on a nice winning streak, not having lost in the Octagon since dropping a unanimous decision loss to Keith Jardine in 2006.

Horn is coming off his second submission loss in a row in the UFC, this time at the hands of grappling wizard Dean Lister at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale. Until recently, Horn hadn’t been submitted in nearly seven years but has dropped three of his last four via submission.

Both fighters will be looking to get back on track and it’s possible that Gouveia could be trying his hand at a new weight class at 185 lbs. His frame is small for 205 lbs., especially at the top of the division and a cut to middleweight may do him well if that’s what weight the fight is being contested at.

Fight Hype has the scoop on the possible return of Jesse “J.T. Money” Taylor to the Octagon:

Despite being kicked out of The Ultimate Fighter Finale, it appears that Jesse Taylor is set to make his return to the UFC. Sources close to the situation have informed us that, less than one month after he was supposed to face Amir Sadollah in the finale, Taylor will be entering the Octagon on the July 19th card headlined by Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin. Although an opponent has yet to be named, it’s rumored that CB Dolloway, who replaced Taylor in the finale and ultimately lost a second time to Sadollah via first round submission, could be the frontrunner to land the fight.

Taylor vs. Dollaway is a fight that I would love to see to see who has the better wrestling for mixed martial arts. Hopefully Jesse’s learned his lesson and the time away from the fighting and the glamor have literally sobered him up.

MMA Junkie is reporting that a lightweight clash between Joe Lauzon (16-4) and Kyle Bradley (13-5) has been agreed to and will take place on September 17th at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska as a part of UFC Fight Night 15.

Both fighters will be coming off of losses with Lauzon losing to Kenny Florian back in April at UFN 13 and Kyle Bradley losing in a welterweight contest against the ever tough Chris Lytle.

This is a good match-up in my mind as both fighters were fairly hot prospects going into their last bouts. Lauzon looked to be holding his own in his match with a highly ranked lightweight in Florian while Bradley didn’t get to show much in the whirlwind of fists that was Hurricane Lytle back at UFC 81.

The current rumored card for UFN 15 looks like this:

Mac Danzig vs. Clay Guida

Nate Diaz vs. Josh Neer

Houston Alexander vs. Eric Schafer

Ed Herman vs. Alan Belcher

Joe Lauzon vs. Kyle Bradley

MMA Mania dug up some goods on some future bouts that have possibly been scheduled for UFC Fight Night 15 in September via a post from Duke Roufus at Wisconsin Combat Sports. According to Roufus, Eric Schafer will take on Houston Alexander in a light heavyweight clash.

This should be interesting because Schafer is a beast on the ground, a place where Alexander has shown to be inexperienced. Schafer is coming off a loss to Stephan Bonnar in his last appearance in the UFC but has since racked up two first round victories on the smaller circuits. Alexander is coming off a knockout loss to James Irvin and has now lost two in a row in the UFC. Both men need a victory here.

Roufus also posted that Alan Belcher will be taking on Ed Herman on the same card in a middleweight battle. Herman is coming off a technical submission to Demian Maia where he was caught in a mounted triangle and being beaten in the face at the same time. Belcher is also coming off a loss to Jason Day at UFC 83.
