FiveOuncesOfPain.com has just learned from sources close to both fighters that Aaron Simpson and Steve Steinbeiss will be competing in separate fights at UFC 103.

No date or location has been announced announced for UFC 103 but the same source confirmed that Phoenix, Arizona is one location being considered for the event.

Arizona is among the growing number of states that have recently sanctioned their mixed martial arts rules to include elbows on the ground among other rule changes that make them identical to the UFC’s.

Arizona is also a hot bed for MMA activity and lays home to numerous top mixed martial artists such as Ryan Bader, CB Dollaway, Jamie Varner, Efrain Escudero, Joe Riggs, Don Frye, Benson Henderson and countless others.

Simpson is a two time All-American wrestler that won a Pac 10 championship while with Arizona State University before eventually going to become a coach for the illustrious wrestling program. He is undefeated in his mixed martial arts with nothing but TKO’s or knockouts in his five professional career and most recently made his UFC debut a successful one, stopping former training partner Tim McKenzie by TKO in the first round at UFC Fight Night 18 in April.

Steinbeiss is a K-1 veteran and training partner to Simpson at the highly respected Arizona Combat Sports. He was recently scheduled to face off with Ryan Jensen at UFC Fight Night 18 before Jensen was forced out of the bout at the last second.

Separate published reports indicate that light heavyweight Steve Steinbeiss and middleweight Nissen Osterneck have been transferred from the roster of Zuffa-owned World Extreme Cagefighting to its sister promotion, the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Both additions to the UFC roster come as a mild surprise. Steinbeiss and Osterneck competed at WEC 36 on Nov. 5 and both lost to their respective opponents. The UFC has traditionally avoided signing fighters coming off losses outside of the promotion.

According to MMA Weekly, Steinbeiss, 4-2, will serve out the remainder of his original four fight contract signed with the WEC while competing under the UFC banner.

Steinbeiss, whose brother, Ray, is also an MMA fighter, has three fights remaining on his contract following a split decision loss to former UFC veteran Carmelo Marrero during his WEC debut at WEC 36.

Steinbeiss trains out of Arizona Combat Sports with notable fighters such as WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner, WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit, and current UFC fighter C.B. Dollaway.

Reports that Osterneck is also headed to the UFC comes courtesy of the website CramThis.com. Osterneck, 5-1, suffered the first loss of his pro career at WEC 36 when he was TKO’d in the second round against former three-time NCAA champion Jake Rosholt.

Prior to joining Zuffa, Osterneck had competed for Mark Cuban’s HDNet Fights in December of 2007, where he was able to defeat Freddie Espiricueta via verbal submission at 2:37 of round 1.

MMA Junkie broke the news this week that Serra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu student Dan Simmler would be on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter reality show. Simmler has no professional MMA bouts and is 2-0 as an amateur but comes into the show as a highly decorated BJJ player and submission grappler.

It’s tough to find video on a guy that has only two amateur MMA fights so grappling videos is as good as it gets. First we have Simmler with a quick win via flying triangle. After the jump we have Simmler taking on Jimmy Quinlan in a rubber match where once again Simmler uses the flying triangle to his advantage. For reference’s sake, Simmler is in the brown top and black shorts.
