Each man participating on tonight’s “War on the Mainland” card stepped on the scale Friday afternoon in Irvine, California and, as expected, all nine bouts will take place as originally scheduled.

Perhaps most notably, former UFC heavyweight champ Tim Sylvia officially measured in at 274 pounds. The number is actually thirty pounds down from his weight in his last bout, against Mariusz Pudzianowski at Moosin last May, and only twelve pounds heavier than he was in his final Octagon appearance against Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira in February 2008.

“War on the Mainland” features Sylvia and Paul Buentello locking horns over the PWP Heavyweight Championship, as well as UFC veteran Jason Lambert fighting late replacement Tony Lopez for the light heavyweight belt and former IFL 185-pound champ Matt Horwich facing submission-specialist Thales Leites for the middleweight title.

Additionally, former UFC Lightweight Champion Jens “Little Evil” Pulver and hard-hitting journeyman Terry Martin are slated for action at the show. Pulver measured in at 155.4 pounds, meaning his recent run at featherweight appears to be over, while Martin came in at an even 170 pounds in preparation for his bout against 16-6-1 Jorge Ortiz.

The official results of the weigh-ins are as follows:

A.J. Matthews (168.8 lbs) vs. Sean Choice (169.4 lbs)
Todd Willingham (154.8 lbs) vs. Cleber Luciano (153.8 lbs)
Joao Silva (153.4 lbs) vs. Erin Beach (154.4 lbs)
Jorge Ortiz (169 lbs) vs. Terry Martin (170 lbs)
Gustavo Machado (185.8 lbs) vs. Rick Reeves (183 lbs)
Jens Pulver (155.4 lbs) vs. Diego Garijo (153.8 lbs)
Matt Horwich (185.4 lbs) vs. Thales Leites (184.6 lbs)
Jason Lambert (203.8 lbs) vs. Tony Lopez (204.6 lbs)
Tim Sylvia (274.4 lbs) vs. Paul Buentello (251.6 lbs)*

* – Bout is being contested with 275-pound maximum rather than the standard 265-pound limit for heavyweights

Martin’s opponent will be up-and-coming 24-year old middleweight prospect Cory Devela.

Martin is 17-5, according to Sherdog’s fight finder, and most recently competed during Affliction’s inaugural show on July 19 in Anaheim, Calif. Competing against former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort during Belfort’s middleweight debut, Martin was knocked out at 3:12 of round 2.

A month prior, Martin was declared a winner via disqualification against Daiju Takase due to low blows during Adrenaline MMA’s first-ever show on June 14.

While in the UFC, Martin compiled a 2-4 record with victories over Jorge Rivera and Ivan Salaverry and notable losses to Chris Leben and James Irvin.

Martin has also trained and competed as a professional boxer.

Devela is 9-2, according to Sherdog’s fight finder. He might be best known for a submission victory over Joe Riggs at 1:22 of round 1 during Strikeforce’s February show at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Wash. in which Riggs was forced to submit after injuring his back.

Devela also holds a win over former UFC fighter Lodune Sincaid, who appeared on the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” Both of Devela’s losses have come to notable fighters, having lost to both Ed Herman and Matt Horwich of the UFC.

Other bouts announced for the 10-bout “Strikeforce at the Mansion II” include Joe Riggs vs. Kazuo Misaki, Bobby Southworth defending his Strikeforce light heavyweight title vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral, and a Strikeforce lightweight title defense by champion Josh Thomson against a challenger yet to be named.

WEC titlist Miguel Torres is coming off of two electric victories to retain his bantamweight championship. Now, Torres is preparing himself for the next potential challenger. While he doesn’t know exactly who he’ll be facing yet, he does know who the top fighters being considered are.

There are a couple of guys being looked at – Damacio Page of Greg Jackson’s team, the guy who just beat Chase Beebe – Will Ribiero, Manny Tapia - who I was supposed to fight before he hurt his knee, and there’s one other guy but his name is escaping me right now,” said Torres.

Torres would also like to have the match-up before the end of the year.

They wanted me to fight again in September,” said Torres, “But I am opening a new gym, just got a new house, and I am teaching some seminars so I told them December would be better for me. I’m sure December will be when I fight again.”

Based on Torres’ 15 fight winning streak that includes two victories this year over Yoshiro Maeda and Beebe, I believe Torres has a chance to quickly move up the pound-for-pound rankings with yet another victory over a top challenger. Torres has a great all-around game, and he may very well be one of the best fighters in the sport.

Miguel Torres and Urijah Faber put on very impressive performances at the last WEC event. That leads to the inevitable question of if the two champions will eventually face each other.

I know me and Faber are going to fight in the future,” said Torres, “It’s going to have to happen. The people would love to see it. I would love to do it. I know that he would too.”

Torres was also quick to say the fight is not going to happen just yet. He wants the fight to become as big as it possibly could first.

It’s just a matter of the motivation of the paycheck. The WEC has the two best fighters at 135 and 145. They’re not going to want to put a superfight together for a while. They’re going to let me dominate my weight class and let (Faber) do his thing,” Torres said.

Holding off on the dream match for a little while is both a good and bad idea. If both fighters are successful, the fight just gets that much bigger. However, as we’ve seen all too much (see: Mirko Cro Cop vs. Gabriel Gonzaga) , if either fighter loses, the match-up could quickly fall apart.

Tapia was forced to pull out of the right after sustaining a knee injury during training. While the WEC has not officially announced a replacement, MMAMania.com has broken the news that Torres is now expected to defend his title against Yoshiro Maeda.

Torres has one of the most impressive records in MMA at 32-1 and won the WEC bantamweight title in just his second match for the promotion. He submitted incumbent champion Chase Beebe with a guillotine choke at 3:59 of round 1 during the WEC’s show in Albuquerque this past February.

Maeda, a veteran of Japanese-based promotions PRIDE, DEEP and Pancrase, also made his WEC debut on the same show. He recorded a first round knockout over Charlie Valencia after connecting with a vicious kick to the body.

The WEC’s June show in Sacramento will take place at the Arco Arena and will be headlined by WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber defending his title against former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver.
